He used it on his own time to give recitals in hospitals, Red Cross clubs, and on occasions be fore civilian audiences, in Eng land, Ireland, France, Belgium, and Germany. Mrs. Jean Fielder returned in 1947 from New York City where she spent nearly three years in study with Gyorgy Sandor. ,In January this year she appeared as soloist with an orchestra at the New York College of Music. She has given many recitals in New Mexico, her native state, and in Texas, where she attended North Texas State Teachers College. Her pianism lends itself well to ensemble playmg and it will be in this capacity that she will be heard with the trio. Of a per formance last January the Kan sas City Star had this to say of her playing: "Mrs. Fielder's rendition of the piano score was at once brilliant and finely proportioned to the string parts,, exemplary of the unique use the composer made of the piano in numerous sonatas and trios." Alex Fielder invariably im presses audience, musicians,- and critics with the amazingly beau tiful tone -produced from his flute. A Kincaid pupil, Mr. Fielder is at present solo flutist with the Dal las Symphony during its regular season, as well as flutist with the trio. Of course the famous New York Philharmonic was covered, and in the dispatches sent back to his paper, Rosenfield stated that he was still of the opinion that Alex Fielder had as beautiful a flute tone as any in .this country. Another minor, altho important, accomplishment is his ability to tune a piano. Minor in relation to his ability on his instrument, but important when it is realized that a flute tuned low will not produce as fine a tone ' as when it is tuned up to pitch. r Education . . .
