OPEN FORMAL SEASON

Formal season on this campus
opens Friday evening with the
Military ball and the presentation
of the honorary colonel. Slatz

Following closely the opening of
the formal season the Sigma in us
are scheduling their yearly "Pig
dinner for Saturday night at the
4 Cornhusker while Phi Kappa is en
tertaining at a formal party at the
Lincoln the same evening,
f Pledges Give Smoker.
Pledges of Alpha Tau Omega
entertained the active chapter at
an informal smoker Tuesday eve
ning Nov. 22. A short impromptu
program was given at the close of
the evening.
Phi Mu Alum Weds.
Mr. and Mrs. Martin L. Peder
sen announce the engagement and
. approaching marriage of their
daughter, Lois, to Dr. Knute O,
Broady of Lincoln. The wedding
will take place Dec 28 at the
home of the bride's parents. Miss
Pedersen is a graduate of the Uni
versity of Nebraska from where
she received her master of arts de
cree in 1932. She is a member of
Phi Mu sorority and Mortar Board.
Plan 'Pig' Dinner.
The initial formal affair on the
campus after the opening of the
season by the Military ball will be

the traditional pig dinner of Sigma
Nu fraternity Saturday evening at
the Cornhusker hotel. Ray Frer
ichs, president of the fraternity,
will conduct the dedicatory service
after the presentation of the pig.
Floral decorations will be used on
the tables and there will be danc
ing between courses of the dinner.
Chaperones will be Dean and Mrs.
J. E. Rossignol, Mrs. Clara Skiles
Prouty and Mrs. Lola Hood. Fol
lowing the dinner the guests will
go to the ball room where 200
couples have been bidden to a for
mal dance. Fred Nicklas is in
charge of the arrangements.
Clarke. Skade.
One of the most interesting en
gagement announcements of the
year was made Monday evening
when Gertrude Clarke, Alpha Xt
Delta of LaGrange Illinois, and
Clarke Skade, Pi Kappa Alpha of
Lexington, passed the candy and
cigars.
Miss Clarke is chairman of the
vocational guidance committee and
has charge of vespers. She is a
member of Mortar Board, women's
honorary. "Chuck" is business
manager of the Cornhusker, was a
member of the Junior-Senior prom
committee last year, served on me
Inter-fraternity council and was
admitted to the Innocents' society
last spring.
Tri Delts Give Tea.
Miss Grace Spacht, Baptist stu
dent secretary of the University of
Nebraska entertained at an annual
informal party Saturday evening,
for the students who remained
here during the holidays and for
the Lincoln Baptist students.
Thirty-five guests attended. Re
freshments were served late in the
evening.
Formal Is Announced.
Three hundred couples will at
tend the Phi Kappa formal Satur
day evening at the Lincoln hotel.
Among the chaperones will be
Col. and Mrs. F. A. Kidwell and
Miss Lydia McMahon, the house
mother. Richard Blankenship is in
charge of the arrangements.
DEBATERS TO DISCUSS

The team taking the affirmative
side of this question will make a
trip through Iowa Dec. 13 and 14,
The team will debate the Univer
sity of Iowa at Iowa City at 9 a. m,
Dec. 13 and this debate will be
broadcast over station WSUI. That
evening the team will debate Coe
colleire at Cenar Rapids.
The negative team at the same
time will make a trip through
Kansas and Arkansas. There will
be a radio debate with Kansas
State college at Manhattan on
Dec. 13 at 10 p. m. which will be
broadcast by station KSAC. There
will be another debate with the
University of Arkansas at Fay
etteville on the following day. This
debate will be published in the
1933 number of the University
Debater's annual.
The tentative plans for the sec
ond semester call for debates with
local institutions on the question
of the cancellation of the inter-al
lied war debts. The proposed
schedule includes debates with
Cotner college and Missouri Nor
mal college at Marysville, with
which Nebraska will also have two
home debates on Feb. 23.
The University of Wyoming will
come to Lincoln on March 20 and
21, and the University of South
Dakota will meet Nebraska in
Omaha March 31. Iowa State col
lege will come to Lincoln for a de
bate at a date not yet decided.
Nebraska will enter a team in a
tournament among several of the
middle western schools to be held
in Iowa City on March 1.

Will Attend Ball.
Virginia Ann Shrimpton of Ains-
worth is to be the guest of Bar
bara Spoerry at the home of Capt.
and Mrs. C. W. Spoerry, until after
the Military ball. Miss Shrimpton
is a graduate of the University of
Nebraska and a member of Delta
Delta Delta.
Honoring Mrs. Amy Parmelee of
Champlaign, 111., members of the
Delta Delta Delta gave a tea Sat
urday from 3 to 5 o'clock at the
home of Mrs. Arthur L. Smith.

Gamma Phi Beta Mother's club
will meet Tuesday at the chapter
house. Mrs. A. D. Eicenbrodt and
Airs. jm. j. Anderson are the host
esses.
Phi Tau Theta.
Phi Tau Theta, Methodist fra
ternity, will hold a meeting Tues
day evening from 7:00 to 8:00.
Dean Le Rossignol of the College
of Business Administration will
give an address on the subject:
"Service versus Profit." A discus
sion will follow the speech.
Ag Vespers.
"Buddhaism" is the subject to
be discussed at Ag Y. W. C. A.
vespers Tuesday at 12:20 in the
home economics parlors. Dr. Re
beckah Gibbons, recently returned
from an extended trip to the East,
will be the speaker. Marguerite
Thompson will lead the devotional
service.
Ag Club.
Ag club will meet on Tuesday,
Nov. 29 at 7:00 p. m. in room 306
of the Dairy building. Mr. W. E.
Hardy will speak on Agriculture in
New Zealand.
PI Mu Epsilon.
Pi Mu Epsilon, mathematics fra
ternity, will meet Tuesday evening,
Nov. 29, at 7:30 o'clock.
Girls' Commercial Club.
Tuesday evening Nov. 29, at 6
o'clock, the girls commercial club
will meet in the Y. W. C. A. build
ing for dinner which will be fol
lowed by initiation of the pledges.
COEDS FORM HOBBY CLUB
Lois Rathburn Will Sponsor
Tap Dancing Tuesday in
Armory Hall.
A new Hobby Club is to be
formed Tuesday evening at 7:15 in
the Armory when Lois Rathburn
will take charge of a club for tap
danciog. This club is open to every
woman student. Those planning to
take up the work must be equipped
with low heeled, leather soled
shoes.
