THE DAILY NEBRASKAN
VARSITY QUINT
WORKS FOR WIN
Next Game With Oklahoma A.
And M. Is Important
In Schedule
In preparation for the week-end
contest with the Oklahoma Aggies,
the Nebraska basketeers spent the
Tuesday basket drill in scrimmaging
Bunny Oakes' yearling team. Scor
ing honors were even until Brown,
Witte, Munn, Holm, and Lewandow
ski were inserted in the Varsity line
up, when the Huskers pulled out far
ahead of their freshmen opponents.
Witr the Oklahoma Aggies riding
in third place in the Missouri Valley
standings, the Huskers are figuring
on a hard game this coming Satur
day. Preparations for the approach
ing game consist of a one-hour drill
under Coach Black, stressing funda
mentals, then a fifteen minute prac
tice game with the yearling quintets
Wright, Oklahoma A. and M. all
around athlete, is now holding sec
ond place in the Valley race for in
dividual scoring honors. Holt, elon
gated renter on the first place Ok
lahoma quintet, is leading the Val
ley scorers by a substantial margin.

Next year's Varsity team will
probably contain lots of sophomore
material, from the showing being
made by the yearling basketeers in
the daily workouts with the Varsity.
"Morrie" Fisher, John Kimball, Ken
neth Morrison, Glen Milhollin, Cliff
Jensen, and Fred Maclay are provid
ing Coach Bunny Oakes with mate
rial from which to make a fast quin
tet. In the daily scrimmages with
the Varsity, the yearling teams al
ways give sufficient opposition.
According to the last two work
outs and past performances, the
probable lineup this week-end
against the Oak Aggies will have
-Jug" Brown and "Dutch" Witte,
forwards; Glen Munn, center; Elmer
Holm and "Lew" LewandowsW,
guards. This quintet combines a lot
of fight with considerable smartness
in working the ball down the Colise
um court Harvey Grace and Tom
Elliott will work in at the forward
positions, and Bob Krall, Carl Olson,
and George Gohde will aid the Var
sity in the defensive formations.
After the Saturday night contest
with the Aklahoma Ags at home, the
Huskers will go to Ames for a game
with the Iowa State hoopsters Feb.
9. On Feb. 10, the Varsity will
meet Grinnell on the foreign court.
The game with Ames marks the half
way point in the Husker basket
schedule and nine games, including
important contests with Kansas and
Oklahoma, remain to be played.
According to Coach Charley Black,
the plans for the rest of the week
include nothing but scrimmage and
drill on fundamentals. Every ef
fort is being made by coach and
players to place the Oklahoma A.
and M. game in the victory column
because of the importance of the
Saturday tustle.
with Western Maryland College they
