day evening. Tho program consist
ed of music, prayer, and the reading
of tho Passion by Miss Frances
Weintz. Miss Olive Fletcher played
tho piano softly while tho audience

lor, accompanied by Lob Ord, played
a violin solo, and tho Misses Blanche
and Constance Stevens sang a sacred
duct
The program began with tho pro
cessional, "There is a Green Hill," by
the choir, and was followed by
prayer and the singing of the hymn,
"Have Wo No Tears?" After the
reading of the Passion by Miss
Weintz and the violin solo by Miss
Taylor, the choir sang "The Re
proaches," an ancient devotion of the
church setting forth in figures drawn
from Hebrew history a recital of
God's love and of man's ingratitude
Miss Virginia ,Nevill sang the solo
parts.
The service ended with a silent
benediction and the singing of tho re
cessional hymn, "In the Cross of
Christ I Glory."
Twenty Years Ago
The Chicago White Sox won a hot
ly contested game from tho Varsity
by a score of 0 to 4. A feature of
the game was the homb run by Cap
tain Bender of Nebraska which was
responsible for two of Nebraska's
tallies. This was the first time sinco
'96 that a major league team appear
ed in Lincoln. The game arrouscd
considerable interest and a large
crowd attended.
The freshman class meeting at the
Armory was said to bo tho most in
teresting in years. Sophomores at
tempted to atop tho gathering but the
yearlings defended themselves so
successfully that the second-year stu
dents were soon routed.
In a speech given before tho fath
ers of sons in Princeton, Dr. John
Grier Ilibben, president of that Uni
versity, set forth tho reasons for fail
ures in college. The main cause3
given were, moving pictures, posses
sion of automobiles, too great indul
gence in extra-curriculum activities,
and the over-generosity of parents.
For the first time in its existence
the one-year rule will be establish
ed at West Point. This means that
there will he a freshman team there
in the future for all sports, thus
barring airmen from Varsity com
petition nnless ' they have been at
West Point for one year.

"Four hundred more copies of the
Cornhusker must be sold within the
next week" was the verdict issued
from the Cornhusker office. In or
der for the annual to be a financial
success, it was necessary to withhold
publication until enough books were
sold. If the required number could
not bo sold a part of the book would
have to be cut out thereby decreas
ing the value and standard.
The UniversityrCadet Band left on
a trip to Seward, David City, and Os
ceola where they played as a part
of the University Extension Week
program. The audiences which greet
ed them were very large and appre-ciative.
