Yost Has Coached
Many Ail-Americans
Fielding H. Yost, familiarly known
as "Hurry-Up" Yost because of his
tremendous pep and his use of it in
speeding up his players, has been a
leading football coach for twenty
seven years. Prior to this he was a
tackle on the Lafayette eleven one
year and on the University of West
Virttlnla eleven three years. He was
graduated from the latter school in
June, 1897.
That autumn he was head coach of
Ohio Wesleyan. In 1898 he coached
Nebraska, in 1899 Kansas, In 1900
Stanford, and then in 1901 came the
engagement that was to bring him
uermanent fame. He joined the Uni
versity of Michigan, where his enor
mous success has not only confirmed
hie nnsiHnn as head football coach
r ... -
but made him director oi intercollegi
ate athletics, director of the summer
school for coaches and director of the
four years course in physical educa
tion. In the twenty-three years Yost has
been at Michigan (not including the
season of 1924,) his teams have won
fifty-four games and lost but nine
while In competition with elevens of
the Big Ten, or Western Conference.
Three games were tied. In these con
tests Michigan scored 1,171 points to
their opponents' 239.
Yost has developed twelve Michi
gan men for Walter Camp's Ail
American teams, almost as many as
Camp has placed from the western
rivals of Michigan combined. Two
Yost players, Schultz (center) and
Heston (halfback) are on the ail
American eleven.
