W. H. Williams , who has been
for the past year day operator for
the Burlington at this place has

The local political equality
club was responsible for one of
thc most pleasant social events
which has occurred in thc city for
a long timc. On : Ionday evening -
ing they gave an open meeting
and reception to a number of in-
vitcd guests at the home of L.

place thc rooms were nicely dcc-
orated with cut flowers and thc
suffrage color ycllow. About
sixty were present and du ring the
first part of thc evening listened
to an interesting literary and mu-

suffrage work in this and foreign
countries by rrs. A. J. Marble ,

their caucus last Friday evening
and placed in thc field for thc
coming municipal election this

anc N.C. Campbell ; treasurer , A.
A. Tanner ; clerk , L. C. Edwards ;
engineer , Al Halcs. Thcrc was
no contest over any of the places
except clerk , two nominations for
thc place being madc , . : Mr. Edwards :
wards and F. 1'1. Boss. On thc
vote which stood 24 to 15 , it was
dccidcd to give the place to Ed-
wards , who has for three years
been serving in this capaci ty.
On riday nigh shortly after
thc electric lights had gone out
fire broke out in th restaurant of
G. L. Beard on thc north side
and came very near consuming
thc structure before the fire com-
pany arri\'cd. The : proprietor
was closing np for thc night when
hc states that a gasoline stove
which he had shut off a few mom-
cnts before exploded throwing
burning over thc room and knock-
ing him down. He scm ambled
out of the room and turned in an
alarm but thc blaze practically
destroyed thc stock of candies
and confections. Thc owner is
protected however by an ample
insurancc. Thc building which

is damagcd for perhaps its value
