Engineer Barney Lewis has been run
ning out of Red Cloud , this week.
Railroad employes are sticking pretty
close to business , and there are but few
changes.
Manager C. T. Watson has returned to
work and J. B. Culbertson has gone to

Burns Junction , Colorado.

Conductor A P. Bonnet returned to
his passenger run , Tuesday night , and
Conductor Tim Fole- has gone back to ,
freight.
The Burlington is properly advertis
ing , Eastern Colorado as a stock country ,
and that is the chiefest attraction of
Southwestern Nebraska.
Tom Wilkinson arrived in the city ,
Tuesday night , on a visit. He is clerking -
ing in the chief dispatcher's office of the

Northern Pacific at Missoula , Montana.
Agent O. D. Pickens of Imperial re
turned , close of last week , from Denver ,
where he has been receiving medical
treatment , visiting friends at Benkel-
man en route home.
Conductor A. P. Bonnet and bride ar
rived in the city. Monday night , from
Wisconsin , via Alliance , Nebraska , and c
are receiving the hearty congratulations ref
of many well wishing friends. :
Claim Agent E. Hanson went down to
Lincoln , last Friday night , to meet Mrs.v
Hanson and son , who have been in Bushs
nell , Illinois , for several months. They
arrived in the city on Saturday night. v

A number of the railroad boys have
taken out new stock in the McCook Co
operative Building and Savings association - f
! tion , and more are contemplating doing
so. The investment is safe and the pro
fits ; fair. It is a home institution and
should be encouraged and supported.
A very swell reception was tendered I1
Conductor and Mrs. A. P. Bonnet in the
opera house at Alliance , last Friday evening - s
ening , by Superintendent and Mrs. J. R. e
Phelan. It was the social event of the t
winter , and was carried out with all the
pomp and circumstance characteristic of
Alliance society. The attendance was

large and the costumes elegant ; while all
the particulars were in harmony.

Mrs. G. E. Taylor , whose husband was
a Burlington employe , some years ago ,
returned to St. Joe from a visit to Ober-

lin , last week.
Miss Bertha Handy , sister of Mrs. Ed
Cox , returned to Grand Inland on the
nth , after spending a few weeks with
the latter at Republican.
Agent Bash of Oherlin ha * been "rast-
ling" 1 : with the grip for some lime. Will
Hanson is acting agent meanwhile.
Engineer Anson is resting 10 days for
not giving a cow the right ol track. Engineer -
gineer Harris holds down the right side
of the 71 meanwhile.
Several of the agents have received
their new sealing outfits , this week.
Section Foreman Paul Rosenberg of
Bloomington and brother were taking in
the sights at Oberlin , fore part of the
week.
For the first four days of this week , .
Sunday , Monday , Tuesday and Wednes
day the Oberlin branch shipped 36 cars
of stock.
COURT HOUSE NEWS.
DISTRICT COURT
In addition to the three cases decided
last week and reported in the-e columns ,
up to the time of our going to press this
week the following cases have been dis
posed of :
The replevin action of David Carpen
ter vs. The Citizens Bank of McCook was
decided in favor of the bank defendant ,
with special findings in which the plain
tiff agrees to release from the mortgage
a certain stallion.
The action in appeal brought by The
McCormick Harvesting Machine Co. vs.
Hiberd E. Waugh was decided by the
jury , after lengthy consideration , in favor
of the defendant Waugh.
The action in replevin of P. T. Francis
vs. H. H. .Mitchell was decided by the
jury 7n favor of plaintiff , to whom dam
ages were given in the sum of one cent ,
the costs of suit going to the defendant
in i the case
The Crabtree-Archibald case was con
tinued over to next term of court to give
the prosecution time and opportunity to
amend.
The damages suit of T. C. Kelley vs.
Alice Peters resulted in the jury giving
Kelle } ' damages in the sum of one cent ,
and the parties to each pay their own
costs.
The jury brought in a verdict of not
guilty in the state of Nebraska vs. Wilj
liam Porter. This was a case of alleged
assault , appealed from the county court ,
and concluded the jury cases at this term
of court.
The case of the Citizens Bank of Mc-
Cook vs. C. F. Babcock , involving the
collection of taxes under distress warrant -
rant , was taken under advisement by the
judge. }
The appeal case of Red Willow county
vs. the estate of A. H. Barnes , involving
some $240 excess fees collected and not
turned over to the county , the defendant
was given 30 days to prepare brief , and
the : plaintiff 30 days in which to reply.
COUNTY COURT.
Suit on note was filed , this week , by
G. B. Wolford vs. C. O. Haleet al. Case
to be heard next month.
Rittenhouse & Boyle have commenced
au action against William Schmidt for
professional services rendered. It will
be heard tomorrow. *
Judge Smith is now figuring on a J
scheme to stimulate the matrimonial f
market , which has been quite dull for
the past few week.
