Fowler McCormick, Heir to Millions, Works for $2J a Week in Factory By SARAH BROWN. Internntiunal >>»■ Service staff Torre# pendent. Milwaukee, March 26.—A hoy who was born with a silver, almost, one foight aay, a gold spoon in his mouth, Is swinging bars for nine hours a day and J21 a week In a factory here—and he likes it. He Is Fowler McCormick, son of Harold McCormick, International Harvester magnate, and Edith of Rockefeller McCormick, born and reared In the atmosphere of millions. But today, he hurried down the walk from hig (4 a week rooming house, to gobble a workingman’s breakfast at a nearby restaurant, and he summed up his views of the change with: "Oee, I'm. having the time of my life.'* . Rises at 5 A. M. The chap, who has had his own cars and hosts of servants now rises at 5 a. m. His cheeks are rosy and he walks with a jaunty air. "That factory has certainly con ditioned me," he said today. "I wish I had time to do a little boxing now. I used to do It some but 1 bet I could almost lick myself after heav ing those iron rods all day long. I'm getting hard, that’s what—hard, “This Isn't just a stunt, either. I'm not going to quit. I'm going to stick right at it and work here at the job until they think I deserve a better one. "Mrs. Stillman, the mother o^.Tames Stillman, my best friend at Princeton, was the one who thought of this and urged me to do it. "And right here I want to straighten out any (rumors about my being in love with her. There Isn't any sort of a romance between us. She is a wonderful person and she has been mighty nlre to me—sort of a god mother, you might say. She came up here to see me just to find out how I was getting along. Eet me tell you, If I was In love with her or any one else, I wouldn't get so far out of the running. I'd stay right in Chicago where I *could keep in touch with things.” AA'e were standing In front of the International Harvester plant by now, and the boy whose father virtually owns the entire organization glanced nervously at his watch. Being late, he explained, means a cut in pay, and he wan I to he sure to punch the time <|i"i within a margin of safety. Identily Concealed. His identily at the plant had been concealed under the friendly "Mao” by which fellow workers knew him until the visit of Mrs. Fifi Potter Stillman yesterday. She met him as he came out from work and they had dinner together. "But the pom* boy was so tired and sleepy he could hardly keep awake,” she said today. "I wanted to see him, though, and felt I couldn't go on west without saying hpllo to him.” FIVE BUILDINGS IN PANAMA BURNED Harlan, la., March 26.—Panama, a village 11 miles northwest of here, suffered a disastrous fire Tuesday morning In which five business buildings were destroyed, among them the I.egion hall, built by the local post and only partially paid for.
