Enters Tank Meet Lincoln, Jan. 28.—Omaha, Grand Island, anil Lincoln teams have made entries In the state Y. M.'C. A. swim ming meet to be held at the "Y” pool liere Saturday afternoon. Omaha 1s entering It" crack senior relay team, George Walker, Kay Ramsey, F. D. Slater and Cllf Klliston, which holds the state record, won last year. Don ald Head and Walker will enter the fancy diving event; Klliston the 200 yard breath: Salter and Walker the 200-yard free; Ramsey the 100-yard ^•Ljgk and free with Klliston also In *"lTie latter. Grand Island will enter all the senior events, and Francis Morris In the junior events. Lincoln will enter senior and junior events. New York, Jan. 28.—Joie Ray, Chi cago's blonde flyer, ran the greatest race of his life here last night. He started in this event after his heart had been torn by defeat at the hands of Paavo Nurmi and after he had driven the invader to a new world record, but had failed. The big race had ended and cheers fille^ the hall for the conqueror when [Ittle Joie set out upon the path that requires more grit than strenuous competition—the run to shake the hand of the victor. Dark words had come from that re cent meeting of Nurmi and Uav in the American’s home city, and if there was ill feeling, Ray's run to shake hands was all the more note worthy. New Rifle Record Made. Waterbury, Conn,, .Jan. 27.—Con firmation of a new national record, a perfect score of 600, in their match with the Fresno (Cal.) girls’ (team, has been received by the Crosby high school girls’ rlfje team of this city from the national headquarters of the Junior Rifle corps. The Cros by team recently established a record of 490 in a match with ti Chicago girls' team. KAPLAN SIGNS FOR BOUT ON COAST Oakland, Cak, Jan. 28.—Louis (Kid) Kaplan of Meriden, Conn., feather weight champion of the world, will meet Johnny Farr, San Francisco, in a bout here February 18, It was an nounced today by Tommy Simpson, local promoter. It has not been decid ed whether the match will be 10 rounds to a decision or a 12-round no decision, Simpson said, that depend ing on Kaplan. ' INCOLN, Jan. 28. .—Husker track men are setting the pace on the new cinder path under the east stadium to a pace clock. Coach .Schulte has placed a large ticker on the 440 yard finish line and sprinters start with the clock and time themselves. Schulte has served notice that Thursday there will he another real tryout for the K. C. A. C. indoor meet at Kansas Cky. Crites, Hein, Daily, Johnson and Gish are expected to line up in the 440-yard dash at 4 p. m. In the 880-yard run, Cohen, Hays, Harkford, Lawson, Dalton, Bushnell and Johnson will fight it out. The four best men in the squad will be used in the two-mile relay. In the mile event, Zimmer man and McCarthy will try out. Lewis will do the 600-yard run. I-ewis has been making some nice time in this event. In the 880-yard run, Tues<Jpv afternoon. "Mud" Gardner and Howders^cldt put on a race. “Mud" made the distance in two minutes, 5 5-10 seconds, and llowdersheldt in two minutes. 7 7-10 seconds. Coach Schulie is the first roach In the valley, in far as is known, to make use of the pace clock in the track so that the men can time them selves while taking their workouts. Nebraska has the advantage over Rome of the valley schools this year in having a splendid Indoor track. In the shot put, big Kriemelmeyer is increasing, his distance and now lias a mark of 40 feet and aix inches. He is new at the weight game and has shown good develop ment for the time he lias been in training. MUNY DIRECTORS TO HOLD MEETING The board of directors of the Mu nicipal Baseball association will bold their first meeting of the year to night at 8 in room 306 of the city hall. Plans for the monster mass meet ing will occupy most, of the evenings session. The mass meeting, which is an annual affair, will be held in Feb ruary. Plan to Organize .'
