Fair Support in Wheat Follows Bull Influence Close Not Far From Top Levels of Day; Aggressive Buying Puts Corn High er; Oats Advance. By nMBI.ES J. I.n OF.V. T'nlreveal Smlce Staff Coirfipondent. Chicago, Dec. 5,—Fair support developed In the wheat pit today In response to a combination of bullish inf lienees, and price* moved forward. The close was not far from fop levels of the day. Unex pected strength in Liverpool offset the continual absence of export, business and as a. consequence the favorable develop ment* in the domestic situation counted. Indications that farm reserves arh ma terially below the 10-year average and hriak milling demand for the cash article in various terminal* checked selling pres sure. Wheat closed 4 014« higher, corn was ’A Hi 1 %o up. oats were 4@ 14<- higher and rye ruled %c lower to lc higher. The feature of the day was the heavy changing of December and M by elevator interests. This ^shifting of hedges, estimated by pit brokers at 1,000, 000 bushels from the current month into the deferred rrtonth. narrowed the discount hi the close to 5%c against H',c last week. Incidentally. December wheat made th« highest close on the crop to date. The sen hoard confirmed sales of 2 50, Oeo to r,00.000 bushels. Liverpool c!osc«l 1 ^ *8 Ui pence higher. Spot w heat abroad .■ Aggressive buying nf corn through sev eral commission houses put that grain h.gher. Profit taking sales were liberal on,theadranee, but the close was at the highest price so far. Country offerings of corn were reduced and weather conditions were unfavorable for the movement of the new crop front the interior. Private from the Argentine, that the corn crop was burning badly, attracted much of the early support. Oats received active support and ad vanced sharply* The December was es pecially buoyant. Deports coming in claim that farmers are feedfflg oats on a h;g scale, and the relative «heanness of this grain, compared with corn, has apparently Induced fresh support. December rye was heavy and sold off for the want of support. The deferred month, however, was relatively firm. Provisions were in a hrorffl trade and strong. Lard was la^j-274c higher and rihs were 104$27 4© up. Fit Notes. House* that have been persistently bullish on the wheat market were steady sellers on the advance today In the wav of profit taking. The market at the moment is acting In a healthv fashion and apparently awaiting definite encour agement before moving rapidly upward. the hulk of the leaders in the trade fee! that it is only a question of time when wheat will advance briskly. is evidenced by the ever-ready support that It meets on the dip* For several cays May wheat has neared the t! 59 level, but always encountered ; sufficient buying to bring about upward reactions. The estimate by a local ex pert, that 77.2 per cent of the total wheat crop had been marketed up to December 3, was regarded as sensationally bullish and proved one of the stabilizing factors of the day. He estimates that there re a in j 177.000,000 bushel* wheat <»n the farms, against 125,600,000 bushels last yea r. Mfnneapolia, Duluth and Kansas Uity were all reporting excellent demand for cash grain. In Minneapolis millers paid -ring premiums for selected medium grades because of the scarcity of choice wheat. Kansas City sold No. 1 hard out of store at #o over tha December Despite the free comment about for eign reselling. It looks as though Europe is holding to the hulk of Its contracts for delivery across. Bradstr*ets placed the total clearance* of wheat and flour from North America for the week at 10 - 955.OpO bushels, against 11.099.000 bushels last week. At thia rate, clearances of do mystic wheat and flour by the first of January will total at least 190.000,000 bushels. This is In Una with expecta tions, and that tha bull market is work ing out In It* dwn way seem* significant The Balkan atatea were Inquiring for wheat at tha aeahoard todav and bids were said to ba nearly workable CHICAGO PRICES. My dear Joe:— j I hasten to express my entire satisfaction which almost aao\uata to enthusiasm at the remarkable speed you showed in eettling for the Hupcobile sedan which the bandits stole fron my bey Dick last night. The car was wrecked and abandoned out on the Dodge road, We drove it In to our ehop at nine this morning. At ten the insurance adjuster waa here and at noon we had our money. Really, Joe, this speed is comparable to Walter Johnson's fast ball and almost makes me wish that wo may have another claim against you in the very near future, so thoroughly do we admire speed of this kind. 1 Sincerely yours, “If It's Worth Anything, Hare It Insured’ FOSTER - BARKER CO. 207 South 19th St. J\ 3511
