Vi heat Futures jf Sold Actively; Prices Put Off i Fair Recovery at Clo<>e, With , Excellent Buying on Ex- < treme Break; Firm Un * dertone in Corn. < n.r m ARI.Efl 4. LEYDEN. 1 1 iilverNHl Service Stuff CorreMnnnlent. t’hlcaffe. Dec. 2.— Aggressive Hflll/ig of 1 wheat futures today, influenced largely by bearish news from abroad, curried prices oft sharp!) The close, however, wit nessed a fair recovery. Indications that the demand from abroad for available grain in North America had slackened, i otnbined with weakness in Liverpool and Bueno* Aires, induced much of the pies- : sure seen in the pit, but notwithstanding ihere was excellent buying on the ex J Ireme break. Wheat closed ^ (ff l Sc lower, corn was unchanged to %r. higher, oats were \%c. lower to V4c higher, and rye ruled 2@3'*c down. A local operator who waa mentioned as selling wheat on Monday was credited with selling again today. Eastern fnter ests seemed to ha on both aides of the market. Sustaining factors In wheat came in the way of unfavorable crop ad vices from the Argentine »nd reporta of better cash demand for spring grain. The seaboard confirmed export sales of 7.0. nun bushels wheat, with the United Kingdom one of the buyers. Liverpool j c1<»«pd J*4#3d lower. i A firm undertone was apparent In corn all day The cash demand wan improved and tiiere were reports from wide areas of the belt that the movement will not Increase No 1 and No. 2 whit* corn in he’-e from Indiana sold at the December price. Commission houses had resting or dors to buy corn at interval" and the of- 1 foring* were gradually absorbed. Oats were well supported. A house c with country connections took the May. * ash Interests bought December and sold * the May nt 6%c and filje spread. December rye acted toppy ana zr off under scattered liquidation. Fair buying on the dips recovered some of the lost c ground at the close Provisions finished easier. T.ard was unchanged to 2c lower and ribs were 5c higher. Pit Note*. Wheat displayed an erratic tone most of the day. though averaging lower the greater part of the session. Although < the nearby demand for wheat. In this country is admittedly slow the Decem ber d-divery has been showing a steady ^ tone compared with the more distant t months. This has been due to the fact that the wheat delivered on contract lias be.-n taken by Interests who have use - for it. or who are confident of Its merits. There is definite indication of a falling off in the movement of wheat Aside ( from the receipts at Minneapolis nnd f Duluth today arrivals at other primary markets totaled about 400.000 bushels. Canadian and American ports are stock ed up with plenty of wheat, considerable r for winter storage, but the owners of this grain must have ideas that. Europe will want the grain sooner or later. ^ The Winnipeg markets acted relatively - weak most of the day. Wheat pools in Canada have been selling December wheat the last few days. apparently T hedging as a protection against the slow demand. It was intimated by a local grain man that much of the low grade wheat had been previously hedged. The world's available supply of wheat and flour for the week increased 2.706. 000 bushels. It now totals 261.637.000 bushels compared with 249.962,000 bush ♦•Is a year ago. The available shows a decrease of over 6.099,909 bushels on ,, ■ Mean passage. World shipments the last Week did not fall off that much, so it appears that the gra a reaching Europe is still passing rapidly into consumptive channels. This situation only tends to the belie/ that foreigners cannot stay out of the world's export market for long, and that gradually they will again have to anticipate need*. y --— C New ) ork Sugar. No Sharp Breaks in Stock Market, Irrrpularity Noted a* Result of Recent Reaction, hut Sustained Strength Is Unusual. 11, mrll\KI> SPIT.T.\\K. ( nlver»stl Service Finn mini Filitor. New York. Dec. 2-Apparently the stock mnrket was not affected adversely Uy the sharp reaction of Monday. There \v«s a continuation of heavy profit tak ing Dut with each sign of softening prices bargain chasers seemed abundant. There were no sharp breaks today out ride of •» few pool stocks which are pretty well under the control of l*ig operators. About the only noticeable effect of the reaction whs a moderation in the volume of trading. The most significant feature of the market perhaps was Its irregularity. Rails as a rule were strong hut some, like Pittsburgh At W>*st Virginia, after a wide swing were weak and much lower. Atchison, on the other hand, went to a new high. Of special issues United States Realty and Improvement stood out prominently as It continued Its remarkable rise. Coppers and merchandisers wars not much in fa or Motors with a few not ahle exceptions, were Inclined to lower prices The rubbers did little. Sugars were lgw-er and dull. Independent steels, neglected until near the close, suddenly came to 1 i f a and strength. ~ Altogether the market, considering its great rise of nearly a month, exhibited unusual strength. Money was somewhat tighter, call loans opening at 3 per sent and go;hg to 3*4. Shgac was down ?, to 7 points. Coffee was erratic and SO to 90 points down. Wheat acted as if it had been over stimulated and temporarily had gone stale. It was distinctly weak early In the day. declining sharply on a lower Tdver pool. and a drop of about Cc In Argen tine. If anything, rye showed less strength than wheat. Within half an hour the December option, whic h practically meant spot delivery, droppcul 3*ac. Corn was the only on« of the grain group with any show of vitality. Foreign buvlng Is greatly reduced, Dolton whs moderately strong consider ing ih“ nearness of the bureau report. Futures held well all day snd worked higher, the close being at an advance of from 2 5 to 29 points. r \ | New York Quotations v/ Quotations on the New York Stock ax change furnished by J S.
