Vniveraal Service Financial Edltar. New York, Aug. 3 A.—Any stock that didn't advance in today's market was out of step. While there was no great activity, the volume of bualness was much larger than anyone would have predicted before announcement of Germany'* rati fication of the Dawea plan was received. A considerable number of buying orders, both foreign and domestic, had accumu lated over night and were spread over such a diversified lot of securities that many Issues opened higher From stsrt to finish there wes no change In the chtracter of the market. Without sign or haste or pressure, prices rose steadily. Of 45 leading Issues 42 scored gains of a fraction to 31* points. Two ha<! no change and one. Bethlehem Steel, declined U point. News bearing on the market was of good character. From the steel centers the reports were of a gradual Increase In nearly all departments of the in dustry More Interest Is shown In the matter of foreign loans One thing nor generally appreciated Is that the private or semi private loans are likely to bulk larger than those to various European govern ments. What Germany Is to borrow la pretty well known. Belgium is expected to negotiate for a I3A.AOA.A0A issue. But, according to report, there are at least 50 corporations of Germany that have been negotiating with American bankers for credits. Moderately higher money rate* 1n the New York market are expected In the near future. Today's business on the stock exchange aggregated 467.400 shares. Rails advanced on an average ellght ly more than ** of a point, and Industrials were up nn a\erage a little more than 1 point. That la a pronounced gain for a abort session. Foreign exchange wa« slightly lower. Cotton, unreaponalve to reports of de terloratlon of the crop on prospective large buying by Germany spinners by reason qf the better outlook abroad, was only moderately active. Tt was a relatively quiet day In the grain markets, with fluctuations held within narrower limits than has been the rule of late, Corn was Inclined to sag early in the day but improved later. Foreign buying was of reduced propor tions and crop news was not out of the ordinary. Wheat, closed from % to %c down: corn from *4 to 1 He up: ost* frac tionally lower, and rye irregular. Some speculators prominent In grain circles are not so bullish a» w»as the case a few weeks or t month ago. They say price* are not likely to go much higher until late In September. r • \ | New York Quotations | \__—S New York Stock exchange auotattont fumlihed by J.
