Corn Continues f Its Spectacular Rise to New High Illinois Frost Scare Is Stimu lus—Wheat First Dribbles Lower and Then Stages Rally. By ( HAKI.ES J. LEYDEN. talTmnl Service Staff (orr»«.ponc1ei»t. Chicago. Aug. 14.—Corn continued its Spectacular lias today, reaching new highs on the crop for all deliveries. A frost scare emanating out of the northern Illinois belt was the stimulus that at tracted fresh buying of this grain. Wheat drlbjjled lower during the first hour and then staged an impressive rally. Wheal closed ‘,* © %c lower, corn was lVb ©1 ’tr higher, oats were ?*@lchigher •ml. rye ruled off. L t t Export buying of wheat led to the bet ter snowing made by the leading cereal during the last hour. Crop news on wheat remained favorable and tended to Intimidate buyers. The seaboard con firmed moderate sales of wheat for ex port, , §00,000 bushels in all. Liverpool Wheat finished 2*%<&-%d lower. Pressure is off the corn market these days and prices moved forward with ease. Local operators were aggressive buyers of the December delivery today while commission house profit taking came out oil the bulges. The forecast for warmer temperatures over sections of the belt at * traoted considerable of the realizing, but . the buying power was ample for all of “ fetings. fiats encountered a better class of com mission house buying and registered sharp grains, acting Independently of wheat. Rye was draggy throughout the session and closed lower. Good buying was met with on the dips, hut commission house •oiling was on tap 011 every flurry. Provisions advanced well. Lard was 7V4®10c higher and ribs were 10c higher. Pit Motes. The continued favorable crop outlook wgs a Jdg factor in the slackening buy ing power. Developments in the cash sit uation. however, were encouraging. The primary movement gave signs of dwin dling. while the shipments from primary markets today were In excess of the re ceipt*. St. fiOuis reported demand for hard wheat good, with offerings about cleaned up. There were 410.000 bushels wheat sold out of Chicago for export. The pending movement of spring wheat Is attracting much comment in trade cir cles It is claimed that farmers of the northwest are likely to rush their grain to market with greater rapidity than the winter wheat farmers hav-e done, due to financial conditions. The spring wheat crop this year is of such excellent quality, however, millers are bound to absorb the bulk of it ns it moves to market. world shipments/this week promise to bf of fair amount. Clearances from In dia dropped off abruptly while indica tion^ • tv ere for some Increase in the ship ments from the southern hemisphere. It 1s believed, however, that the Argentine has less than 20.000,000 bushels surplus wheat, left for sale. Cf.ble advices late in the session to the effect that the Germans had agreed to the F rich plan of the evacuation of the Ruhr attracted some buying of futures. The world has been waiting for the set tlement of the reparation question for morfths. 'believing that when such was ef fected Europe would make rapid strides to normal industrial and financial ac tivity. The United States this year will have to supply Europe with the bulk of its Wheat needs and with political mat ters- httaping well the outcome should be stabilizing of grains, indeed.
