SEWERtXPENSE Four Roads Join City of Omaha in Work of Construction. Contract arrangement between the city of Omaha and four railroad com panies. In connection with the con struction of the Grace street sewer, shows that the companies will stand the following joint expenses: Cash, $20,000; construction work by the companies, $35,000: sewer right of-way grants, $30,000; damages waived, $10,000. These joint expenses have been apportioned to the roads In the following amounts; Union Pa cific, $33,000; Illinois Central, $29,000; Missouri Pacific, $8,500; Chicago. St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha, $23,750. The new Grace street sewer will be constructed under many railroad tracks and through railroad prop erty. The companies will be re quired to Install temporary supports for the tracks and to raise the grade of the tracks. The right-of-way grants given to the city carry a stipulation that the companies shall not build over the sewer. The contract authorized Tuesday morning by the city council and In favor of the Jones Engineering com pany carries an amount of $341,000, of which the railroads will pay % $20,000. U. S. FIGHTS INDIAN LANDS OIL LEASE Washington, July 29.—The govern ment today developed another phase of Its effort to clear up the oil lease situation. Attorney General Stone Issued or ders for the filing of a suit to cancel an oil and gas prospecting lease ap plying to a reservation created by executive order for the the Navajo Indian nation In southern Utah. If the government Is successful in this suit. It will take similar action to lnvlidate more than 20 other such per mits, IS of which were granted by former Secretary Fall of the Interior department and which apply to Indian lands In a dozen different western localities. The suit ordered filed Is against E. M. Harrison, the Midwest OH com pany, and the Southwest Oil company and is based on an opinion recently submitted by the attorney general to the president, In w'hich he held that Mr. Fall’s construction of the general leasing act of 1920 was In error when it applied the oil leasing provisions to reservations created by executive order. Mr. FaU's interpretation of the provision was given upon applica tion for a lease by Mr. Harrison, said here to be an official of the Mid west company, and under that con ^ structlon of the law the other permits also Were granted. AUCTIONEER IS SUED FOR DIVORCE David Earl Neafus, well-known auctioneer, was sued for divorce Tues clay by his wife, Gladys Munger Nea fus, on allegations of cruelty. They live in the Roland apartments and she says he has an income of $1,000 a month as the auctioneer selling all bankrupt stocks coming under con trol of B. H. Dunham, referee in bankruptcy. They were married in 1914. She says he often said he did not love her and asked her to get a dicorce. In April, 1923, six weeks after their only child died, he deserted her, she says. WIFE SUES MAN AFTER 33 YEARS After 33 years. Pearl Fannie Lewis finally finds married life with George Lewis, 1510 South Twenty-sixth street, no-longer endurable. She filed suit for divorce, alleging he has struck her and that she once had to have him arrested. They have seven children, five of them minors. Seek Plant Removal—Injunction proceedings against the Murphy Pav ing company, to cause the removal of Its plant from Sixteenth and Man derson streets, was authorized Tues day by the city council. Severs! months ago the council declared the plant a nuisance. Mother Is Dead—Mrs. Samuel Bier fried, 76, Independence, Mo., mother of A. A. Siegfried, of the Omaha Life Insurance company, died Tuesday night. Her six sons were at her bed side. Sleuth’s Brother Robbed—Edward Trapp, brother of Detective Andy Trapp, reported that $84 had been taken from hlB person while he was In the soft drink parlor of Dan Mc Nulty, Thirtieth and U streets. Boy Bruised by Auto—Donald Die moml. 10, 3421 North Thirtieth street, was cut arid bruised when struck by an automobile driven by W. O. Gray, nr,02 Wirt street, at Thirtieth and Evans streets, Tuesday night. Gray was arrested for reckless driving. Theft Suspects Arrested—Arthur Rumanian and Francis Sullivan, Ithaca, N. Y., were arrested Wednes day morning In connection with the theft of a suitcase, clothing and gro cerles from the home of R. C, McCul lough, 4802 Harney street. The pair was formerly employed by McCul lough on his ranch. Music at Triangle—Sydney McGIns son, tenor, and Samuel Thomas, 11, violinist, entertained members of the Omaha Triangle club Tuesday noon at their weekly luncheon at the Fori tenello hotel. Diamond Ring Stolen—A diamond ring, valued at $100, wae atolen from the home of Mr*. M. McOeough, 3821 North Twenty-third afreet, Tuesday, by a prowler who entered by cutting e passage through the buck screen floor. By International New* Service. Lancaster, Mass , July 30.—Tension was still high here today following the rioting between Ku Klux Klans men and anti-klan followers, In which several were so seriously Injured they are being treated In a local hospital. More than a score were slightly In jured, or at least were able to be removed from the scene of two clashes tefore police could get their names. State, county and municipal author ltles of Lancaster and Sponeer con tinued today to patrol the district, where at times mobs of nearly a thousand men and boys engaged In a battle, In which shotguns loaded with salt, rocks and other missiles were used by both sides. Several automobiles were damaged ar.d some property was destroyed. The rioting started when klansmen opened a meeting on the farm of Charles Schumaker, near here, and another on Warren Wilson's farm, near Spencer. The latter gathering was not molested until It started to disband. Then about 500 men and boys began hurling rocks and the battle was on. At Lancaster a mob of 500 men and hoys surrounded 200 klansmen and began shooting and throwing mlsailes and using firearms. Both factions booed town officials who tried to stop the rioting. LARGE NEW SEWER CONTRACT IS LET City council Tuesday morning awarded to Jones Engineering com pany a contract for constructing a section of the Grace street sewer from Fifteenth and Grace streets to the Missouri river. This company bid $341,000. The company's representative stated that work will begin at once with three crews of workmen. The engi neering problems attending the con struction of this big sewer under many railroad tracks Involved con ferences and correspondence over a period ,of several months. This is one of the largest sewer project^ undertaken In Omaha. Man Stung by Bee Taken Unconscious to Hospital Shenandoah, la., July 29.—Cncon sclous from a bee sting, Ray Huffer, workman on the John Bradley farm, was brought by a physician to the H.>nd hospital.
