She is blood and curled and decorative In appearance, but her arts are not confined to those which please the eye, nor her clevernese to the social arts—and darts—of re partee. Neither does she park her wits in the parlor, but carries a full share of cleverness and originality into the kitchen. She is Mrs. Fred D. Thompson, 1615 Pinkney street, who has Just won a prize of $50 for ths recipe she in vented in the Postum Cereal com pany’s prize recipe contest, in which $7,550 was distributed for original recipes using Grape Nuts. Her name, together with those of 100 other prize winners, appears in the January issue of Good Housekeep ing Magazine, and these names, to gether with the recipes, have been printed in booklet form. The book- : let of 10 recipes can be obtained on sending a request by post card to the recipe department, Postum Cereal company. Battle Creek, Mich. Mrs. Thompson's recipe, however, we reproduce below. Try this on your egg beater: Grape Nuts Tortonl. 113 pints whipping cream 8 4 cup powdered sugar. 3-4 cup Grape Nuts. 4 egg yolks. 1-8 teaspoon powdered mace. Mix together the sugar, mace, and half of the Grape Nuts, whip the cream until stiff, and add the egg yolks, well beaten. Stir lightly and fold in the rest of the mixture thor oughly but slowly. Then put into In dividual paper case containers. Sprinkle the top with the remainder of the Grape Nuts, and top off with a red maraschino cherry. Have ready an empty can packed with cracked Ice and rock salt, using five parts ice to one of salt. Place the paper containers with the mix ture in them in the can, end cover |Today’s Calendar! Agnes Pringle, violinist: Jeanette Christine, soprano; Cleo Messuer, pianist, and David Owen Jones, tenor, will appear. Dr. and Mrs. D. E. Jenkins, who heard them in the east, are enthusiastic In praise of these Welch musicians. Miss Pringle was born of American parents and at an early age started her musical education under such eminent teachers as Bernhard Llste mann, Emile Sauret and Hugo Heer niann. She spent three years abroad study ing with Issay. Barmas of Berlin. Ooby Eberbardt of Nice, France, and in London, England, with Leopold Auer, the famous teacher of Elman and Helfltz. I Miss Pringle has made concert ap pearance in Berlin and Nice, as well as at Queens Hall, London, England, and at many other Important musi cal centers. In America she has appeared with the Chicago Symphony orchestra and has given concerts in all the princi pal cttles of the United States and Canada.
