Western Stockmen / May Get a Hearing special Dispatch to The Omaha Bee. * Washington. Nov. 24—Congress man Bob Simmons of Nebraska today filed protest with the United States tariff commission against concluding an Investigation on the I proposed lower tariff on cattle re I quested by Pennsylvania and New York feeders until western Nebraska, Cdlorado and Wyoming cattlemen had an opportunity to be heard. The protest was followed by numerous let ters to western cattlemen by Sim mons asking them if they desired to be present at the hearing. The Pennsylvania and New York raisers are reported to be eager to get cheaper cattle for feeding from Canada and assert they can accom plish their aim by a reduced tariff "The middlewest has cattle to sell for that purpose as well as Canada." Simmons said today. Eden Valley Girl Wins Free Trip to Chicago Plain view, Neb.. Nov. 24.—Honors In the Boys’ and Girls’ club work were won by Miss Dorothy Kuhl. 14 daughter of Mr. and Mrs Henry Kuhl of Kden Valley. Her work in the club won for her a free trip to Chicago to the National Club congress, which will be held there the first week in December. In her examinations Miss Kuhl re ceived grades above 95. Beatrliee, Neb., Nov. 24.—Returning from Doane college to spend the week end in Beatrice, Ernestine Sorey, Bertha Fischback and Paige Crawford narrowly escaped death near Cortland .last night on the Cornliusker high way. when tht- ear in which they were riding, driven by Kev. Hi l.ee Sorey of this city, collided with one driven by C. V. Nelson of Omahu. The fciorey car was overturned, pin ning down its occupants, who escaped with severe cuts and bruises. Nov. 24—Audubon will observe Its second annual turkey day next Tuesday when 30 turkeys will be thrown from the roofs of business houses of the'city to become the property of those who are so for tunate as to catch them. Arrangement* have been mad# for the ladies' Aid society ot one of the churches to serve coffee and dough nuts free in the library basement during the afternoon.
