Nov. 24.—Hold ing Hio leant*as Jii*. first stretch! of Ur great tfl(Wfieo* crass continental race is near its finish, Harney Googlf’s Spark Plug, with Sunshine tip. got a warm reception here as lie rusftfd under tiie wire like a Yale back being jammed over for another touchdown. Hinted by the allowing time far made by Spark Plug, Mr. Google sent telegrams tonight to the owners of Zev, My Own and In Memoriam chal lenging the^Ue^.’to special m&tch races anywhei*- -along, or near, the route of ihe'ifldtOKiO cross continental classic. “Sparkey has run but a few hun dred miles in this race thus far,’’ said tiie smiling Mr. Google this evening. “He's just hitting his stride. Not until today did Sunshine have to put the bat to him. He’s so fresh that I've wired nty frienjis, Harry Sinclair, Admiral Grayson and Carl Wieder man, challenging them to enter their fancy mules in match races with my brown eyed beauty. I.ong Hist ary e Darling. “Sparkey. Is such a long distance darling that ! can afford to take sev eral hours off any time during the cross continental race and run him in a special gyient. “If Zev, My Own and In Memoriam are not too tired after their recent contests, they ought to make Spark Plug extend himself over a mile and a few furlongs. “Sunshine is just aching to show that he is another Isaac Murphy—-a dyed-in-the-wool black Sandc.” While supervising the rubbing down pf Spark Mug, Mr. Google put him self on record as strongly favoring match races between high class horses. “Too Tired” for Sparkey. "rou can put it in big letters,” Mrf Google concluded, “that the only fear I have now is that Zev, My Own and In Memoriam maybe too tired to meet my Sparkey. They are great horses, of course, link -fragile. My Sparkey is tougher than the Y’ale line, faster than tiie Cornell barkfield, and the greatest passer in the world, not bar ling Notre Dame at its best. Indeed, if* Spark Plug could play football, hod be tiie all-American team him loir. "Sparkey lias only run a few thou sand furlongs in the last feiv days, but. even it they stall these match i liallenges for a few weeks, I'm w ill ing to let Spark Plug run tip the Hocky Mountains while Zev, In Me mcrkim, and My Own run down and wager even money that Sparkey will catch up and pass them before they refich sea level.
