Watson’s Charges of Executions in *** A.E.F. Unfounded k — Committee Appointed to In \estigate Claims of Georgia Senator Find No Basis for Statements. Washington, March 1.—C4>)—'The sensational chapter of senate history revolving around a charge by the lute jt Senator Watson, democrat, Georgia, that American soldiers wero executed without trail in France, was closed when the committee appointed to in vestigate reported that it had found the charges unfounded. The committee's findings were cm bodied in ouo of tho briefest reports ever submitted by an investigating body. It was scarcely a dozen lines in length. It stated merely that in pursuance to the order of the senate, the committee had held hearings and Inquired into the allegations of Sena tor Watson, and ha-1 determined that they were "nut sustained by tho tes timony.” All the committee members fixed their signatures to the report. They tire: Senators Urandegee. Con nectlcutt; Willis. Ohio, and Ernst, Kentucky, republicans; and Over man, North Carolina, and Shields, Ten nessee. democrats. In tho special re port, Senator Ernst also declared un founded the charge which came before the committee during its hearings, that MaJ. H. L>. Vi ators of Platte River Start to Overflow Hanks | Fremont, Neb., March I —(Special.) '—Taking an early start this year, the waters of the Platte river started to ! overflow its banks yesterday with in i dications pointing toward a steady , rise. The river raised over 12 inches Tuesday and continued to swell jester 1 day following a short rainfall. Ice jammed irr the center of the stream forced the water to overflow the hanks on both sides. Should the ' present warm spell continue, it is I feared that the lowlands and high ways soutli of Fremont will he inun i dated. Much of thp ice has broken up and started toward the mouth of the 1 river. Ulster Enjoying Religious Peace End of War Called “Victory of Ulster People Cher Outside Forces.” Belfast, March 3.—The return of Ulster to a period of peace, after months of bloody religions warfare, le bringing joy to high church author ities. Rt. Rev. C. F. D'Arcy, archbishop of Armagh and protestant primate of all Ireland, declares that restored peace is a victory for the Ulster peo ple over "outside forces.” Cardinal Rogue, head of the Roman Catholic church in Ireland, expressea greatr satisfaction at conditions in Ulster, hut feels that the time is in opportune for a public statement in asmuch ns he is now at work on a Lenten pastoral. “I am thankful to say that north ern Ireland is now enjoying almost unbroken peace.” declared Dr. D'Arcy, In an interview. "Order prevails, and law is respect ed. A year ago the state of things was quite different. A determined ef fort was then made, largely by forces operating from outside to make gov ernment Impossible. "But the steady and patient work of the northern government, the self control of all classes and the respect for law and order which la character istic of the Ulster people, have over come the disorganising elements.- My own conviction is that If the govern ment of northern Ireland is given full opportunity to continue its beneficent work without interference, and If no disturbing controversies are forced upon it from the outside, the future peare and prosperity of northern Ire land Is assured.” Saunders County to Patrol 280 Miles of Highway Fremont. Feature Transactions of Livestock Exchange Chris Molgaard came In from l.yons yesterday with two loads of choice Hampshire hogs that averaged 206 pounds. There were 152 head In the shipment that sold for the top price of the day, $8 a hundred. This was the third trip Mr. Mol gaard has made to Omaha with live stock this week, he having come in Tuesday with five loads of cattle that sold for $9 a hundred and four loads of cattle Wednesday, tlirep. of which sold for $8.65 a hundred and one foi ls.40 a hundred. T. W. Sehutt of Winside brought into the local market his first load of cattle for the season^- having a load of beef cattle that sold for $9.25 a hundred. The cattle averaged 1.175 pounds and were bought hero last Au gust when they weighed an average of 722 pounds. "I expected to sell the load of cat tle I brought in yesterday at about $8 a hundred and expected to make a good margin of profit at that price,” said Mr. Sehutt. '‘Cattle feeding oper ations around Winside are paying over $1 a bushel for corn, that is sell ing for 65 cents.” A load of fine Hereford steers aver aging 1,390 pounds was brought t6 the local stockyards by A. J). Bred thauer of North I.oup. The shipment was sold for $9.25 a hundred. Mr. Bredthauer said lie bought the cattle on the local market as feeders about a year ago and they made an excel lent gain both in price and weight.
