Plan to Consolidate Nebraska and South Dakota Baseball Leagues Is Failure —-- ®-i_:____ _ ^ Fail a re to Agree on Gate Receipts Cause Nebraska State League to Start Season May 4—An nual Meeting Held at Lincoln. Lincoln, Feb, 13.—(Special Tele gram.)—A proposal to consolidate the Nebraska and South Dakota state leagues Into eight club circuit was turned down by the directors of the Nebraska circuit Monday afternoon. Failure to agree on the matter of dis tribution o( gate receipts proved the first bitch and a second objection was raised to the dropping of two Nebras ka towns in order to make the pro posed league an eight-club nrganizfl tion. Directors of the South Dakota cir cuit. headed by their president, M. E. Cantillon, appeared before the Ne braska magnates with the plan dur ing the annual meeting of the latter organization. Under this plan there would have been four South Dakota < luhs, Aberdeen, Watertown, Sioux Falls and Mitchell and four of th? Nebraska clubs. Fairbury is the big question mark now, although the directors present expressed confidence that the Coyotes . will be back in the league. George ^egrist, owner of the Fairbury frpn ehise was present hut stated that he would not take charge of the club ihere until the Fairbury fans met ills proposition. A committee was ap pointed to go to Fairbury Tuesday and find out the exact status of the situation. Mr. Segrist will accompany this committee. It was decided to start the sea son May 4. The matter of playing a split season was not definitely de cided. C. .1. Miles of Grand Island was re-elected president. Nebraska league representatives present at the meeting included B. -I. Brown and B. T. Parr, Norfolk; C. E. Jackman and Harry Faidley Grand island; Harvey Heffelfinger. Harry Friday and O. L. Life, Beatrice: George Segrist, Fairbury; O. E. and lames Beltzcr and C. N. Moon, Lin coln. One of the important measures adopted was a resolution providing for the payment of moie money to umpires in order to insure bettr -f firialing. Joe Moore Piles Up Lead on Skates Moncton, N. H. Feb. id.—jui Mooie. New York speed skater, piled op a big lead in the first day's events of the Canadian maritime ire cham pionships today, winning both the half mile ami mile events and placing third in the 220-yard dash. Moore’s total of 70 pointE was more J than double that of Charles Serirmn j of St, John, N. B., who finished with j SO points as a result of his victory ; in the 220-yard event. Charles Jewtraw Lake Placid flash, sprinted to a new world's record of 18 1-5 seconds for 220 yards In an ex hibition race, but did not take part in the championship events. Jewtraw s lime was three fifths of a second faster than the record he created last week at St. John, where he won the international outdoor title. 16 Enter Race.
