Sunday School j Lesson I THE HEBREWS IN SLAVERY Scripture—Exodus 1:7-14; 2:23-25 Memory Selection — Be strong, fear not; behold your God will come . . . and save you. Isaiah 35:4. PRESENT DAY APPLICATION BY FREDERICK D. JORDAN Los Angeles, California When life gets hard we are brought face to face with our need of God. The slavery of the1 ^Hebrews tested their faith and ^endurance. Always the difficult situation gets attention. We give' thanks to God when we are mir-1 aculously delivered from some adverse circumstance. The man,' whose car was demolished in an accident, but escaped unhurt; the fireman who escaped from a burning building just before the walls collapsed, is altogether will I ing to praise God for his deliver ance and to resolve to live a bet ter life to sho\^ his gratitude. But this acceptance of discipline | because of difficulty, this thanks giving because of deliverance is not what God loves most. He [wants his love to constrain us to i do our best at all times. He wants .our praise for the “dangers seen j and unseen” from which he de . livers us each day. The test of our ' discipleship is. not shown in how ! we act in difficult situations, but in its enduring quality under all circumstances. I College Fraternity Quits Parent Body ! BRUNSWICK, Me.—(ANP)— The Bodwoin college chapter of Delta Upsilon fraternity last week; became the latest college fratern-: ity to sever relations with its par-j ent organization oevr the issue of j pledging Negroes. The action resulted from the! pledging of a Negro from Boston,! Theophilus E. McKinney, last January. The Bowdoin college chapter had been under suspen sion since then. ■ FTITTI ' ~~ Carver-Wash. Half Dollar BOOKER WASHINGTON BIRTHPLACE MEMORIAL . . The Booker T. Washington Me morial half dollars, soon to be l replaced by the combination Car ver-Washington commemorative halves, have been used extensively by leading firms for promoting good-will with customers, it was announced today by S. J. Phillips, President, Booker T. Washingtn Birthplace Memorial. So attractive has been the coiit1 in developing favorable customer reaction, the authoritative PRO MOTION EXCHANGE, monthly bulletin of the National Retail Dry Goods Association, devoted con siderable space to the coin and its promotional possibilities. As a re sult, department stores fron. Maine to Florida, have used the* name and fame of one of Amer-1 ica’s leading educators whose! likeness adores the obverse side of the coin, with excellent results. One of the most unusual tie ups came when the American *Oil Company, through its Lord Balti more Filling Stations in the Bal-i timore and Washington markets, used the coins in change. The company dispensed them in spe cially printed envelopes bearing the familiar AMOCO trade mark with a note of friendly apprecia tion. Mr. G. M. Glazier, General Manager, Lord Baltimore Filling Stations, was not only pleased with the identifiable results, but expressed his conviction that “the company made many new friends.” Reports froms everai managers indicated that original purchasers of gas and oil were quick to tell their friends. The new Carver-Washington coins will not be available until mid-December, Phillips an nounced, but orders are now be ing accepted at Booker Washing I-—-. _ a rauc< 4 ton Birthplace, Virginia, and George Washington Carver Monu ment Foundation, Diamond, Mis souri. | Leather and Leather Goods HARPHAM BROS. 816 P Street When You Need PAINTS GLASS MIRRORS WALLPAPER PAINTERS' SUPPLIES Remember the: Van Sickle Glass and Paint Co. 143 South 10th St. 2-6931 Lincoln.
