The Streaks and Sharp Sharks played basketball at Tech High School Certain ones of the girls really stood behind the boys up there and if I must say my self they played a good game. * $ n Sunday, Feb. 19th. the Klique Klub gave a tea at the home of Jeanne Malone. Each member in vited a guest, they were: Martha Hammonds, Sand Della Follings, Loretta McWilliams, Hazel Wilson and Eloise Finley. They served tea, cookies, mints and peanuts. We had a wonderful time. * * * Everything was real quiet Mon day. What is Hop-pon-ing? ♦ * * Flash! We have a young lady here in Lincoln who will be our next basketball star. She is Betty Wilson. Olficers elected at the dinner meeting were Clayton P. Lewis, president; Mrs. Rubie W. Shake sDcare, vice president; Mrs. Hazel Wilson, secretary, and Mrs. Ca mille 1 Beach, treasurer. The group plans a dinner meeting and a business meet each month. The new' organization was au thorized under the A.M.E. Disci pline by J. J. Parks, Kansas City, Kas., conference president, and was temporarily chaired by Mrs. Shakespeare. 'Jackie I{oImiihoii'm Life Story Go<ih Into I’rodiiclion Production of Jackie Robing son's life story was begun here last week. Ruby Dee of "Anna Lucastu" and "No Way Out" will play Mrs. Robinson. Louise Reavers will have an important role. Scores of atmosphere and bit people have parts. On the side numerous profes sional baseball plavcrs, both col ored and white, have been apply ing for jobs for teams to be shown. One of the important jobs in casting this film is the selection of standins or double for the stars. William Washington, well built and about the same size as Jackie, will be his standin, and Doris Ake, attractive dancer, will double for Ruby Dee. Mr. and Mrs. McKinley Tarp lt»r, sr., were honored February 1st with a 30th wedding anni versary party given by their children Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Nance, Mr, and Mrs. Calvin Rogers, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Tarpley and Mrs. Dorothy Dean. A buffet supper was served to the 30 persons who attended. Many lovely gifts were received by Mr. and Mrs. Tarpley. * * ♦ The Rev. J. C. Wiggins of Minneapolis was the house guest of the McKinley Tarpley’s on Wednesday, February 15th. Rev. Wiggins was a former pastor of the Church of God in Christ here. Also recent visitors of the Tarp leys’ were Mrs. Tarpley’s mother Mrs. Emma Beard and Mr. and Mrs. Everret Boston and Baby Bryon of Denver, Colo. Rev. and Mrs, Robert Moody has returned home alter spending about 1H days in the Dr. Nichol'g sanitorium in Savannah, Mo. She is reported doing very well. * * * Persons attended the Leader ship Training School of Sunday School teachers and officers were Francis Lewis, Dorothy Greene, Betty Wilson and Charles Goolsby, all members of Quinn Chapel A. M. E. church. The Northside sessions were held from Sunday, February 26th thru Tues day, February 28th. * • * Mrs. W, A. Leake, house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Coulter, left Monday for her home in Kan sas City, Mo., after spending a most delightful visit. Among the many courtesies given for her were a dinner party by Mrs. Coul ter, a 2 o’clock luncheon by Mrs. W. B. Davis, a dinner party by Mrs. William Beach, a picnic lunch, hostesses Mrs. John Robin son, Mrs. John Johnson and Mrs. Melvin Shakespears, and a party with co-hostesses, Mrs. Willie Page and Mrs. J. H. Dean. Mrs. LeaKe who studied four years at the conservatory of music in Kansas City is a member of the Fellowship Interracial Choir. Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson had as their dinner guest on Sunday, Mrs Do vie Boyd. Wedding Bells Miss Selvilla Finney, daughter of Mrs. Reba Finney became the bride of Dr. Price Terrell at 9 a. m. Saturday, February 25th in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Dr. Price is a successful Omaha dentist and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. * * * Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Edwards had as their dinner guest Tuesday Mrs. Sarah Hunter of Lexington, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. I. B. Colley and Mrs. Mary Shelby. * # * J. R. Lillard, counselor and re placement director of the Twin Cities Training school in Kan sas City, Missouri, spent Wednes day in the city on business. While here he was guest of Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Young. * * * Mrs. R. E. Handy of Omaha is spending some time with her mother in Bakersfield, Calif., Mi's. Handy is wife of Rev. R. E Handy, former pastor of Quinn ChapeJ . A. M. E. church. * * * Miss Clara Moody daughter of Happenings in the Churches CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST —A Weight Rally was given Sun day at 3 p. m. Mrs. McKinley Tarpley and Mrs. Charles Wil liams were in charge. The Missionary had special services Sunday which was well j attended. M.a. Lenora Letcher; spoke on “Why I Wan', to See Jesus.” NEWMAN—Many friends and members will be interested to know that the grand p, ize which was given by the pastor, February 12th, was won by Mrs. J. T. Bell, the mother ol Mrs. Virginia Johnson. QUINN CHAPEL—The Senior and Youth choirs are having a ‘‘Plantation Dinner” Friday March 3rd at the Urban League, beginning at 5 p. m. Mo. Educator Serves As Consultant DENVER, Colo. (ANP). D. F. Martinez, supervisor of public schools for Negro children in the Missouri State Department of Education, Jefferson City, served as resource consultant in leader ship functions and techniques in school supervision for the fifth annual convention of the Associa tion for Supervision and Curricu lum Development meeting here last week. Over 1,200 of the nation’s lead ing educators representing every state registered for the convention, the theme of which is “Mental Health for Better Living.” Major work of the convention was car ried on through a series of 35 discussion groups.
