Oregon FEPC To Be Tested On Cop's Actions SALEM, Ore. (ANP)— Charges that a local police officer ordered two Negro workers out of town will be probed by the State Fair Employment Practices commis sion, it was voted recently. Chairman David Robinson said investigators would seek to learn whether any violation of Oregon’s new FEP act resulted when the cop told two harvest workers at the U. S. Alderman farms, “We don’t allow Negroes in Salem.” The men had gone to Salem to meet their paymaster when the incident occurred. “The FEP commission is con cerned about cases where it ap pears members of a racial mi nority are not able to enjoy the protection of the FEP law be cause of a local policy forbidding them to reamin any certain lo cality,” Robinson said. r--;- • * ...; • Sunday School i • V/ * Lesson ! • Theme—Jeremiah Denounces False Prophets Scripture— Jeremiah 8:8-13;23;26-28 The prophet held a unique place in the life and history of Israel. The priesthood was heredity, but not so with the office of prophecy. Throughout the history of the He brews, beginning with Saul and David, men called prophets held an important place in the life of the nation. In theory they were the acknowledged spokesmen of the Eternal. We recall that when Jeremiah was commissioned, he was placed not only over the peo ple of Israel, but also over the nations. They rebuked kings and princes. But many false prophets had multiplied, until King Ahab had as many as four hundred to appear before Jehoshophat and predict the victory of Ahab w'hen Ahab was killed in battle—False prophets! Frederick D. Jordan says false prophets seem to be as much a part of our world as the pests that eat up our harvests and crops of fruit and the spiders and mosquitoes which sting us, and any other creatures which seem to have no credentials to justify their existence. They rep resent some of the manifold hurdles which we must not Stumble over if wre are to make , a successful journey of life. They ! belong to the mysterious disci plines that prepare the faithful sjoul with a fitness for Heaven. Satan is always able to make l^ad things look good, to make sin lpok like pleasure when it brings only disappointment and sorrow. False prophets usually are bent on arguing and have a wrell beaten path through the Scirptures to some favorite texts w’hich they use for proof. A man of faith can quote Scriptures also, but will give a testimony, not an argu ment, and remain serene. A man cannot use God’s Word success fully unless he is qualified in his own heart.
