Social Briefs By Basilia Bell ... -■-« Mr. Millard G. Woods, organ izer and former executive secre tary of the Lincoln Urban League i was seen in town on April 27 shaking hands with friends. He has just returned from the Na tional Conference of Social Work ers in Atlantic City, N. J. At present Mr and Woods is the executive secretary of the Citizens Recreation Association at Mus keegan, Mich. * # * Miss Dorothy Nevels and Mr. Fred Chumley were united in wedlock Monday afternoon May 3 at 4:00 o’clock. The couple will reside at 1941 “U” street, for a few days after which Mrs. Chum ley is leaving for California, Mr. Chumley will join her later. * * * The Les Femmes met at the home of Mrs. Claudia Collier. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Maxine Walker. Plans are being perfected for a party in the near future. * * * Mrs. fcffie Brown and Mrs. Belzora Johnson of Muscatine, la., are in the city because of the illness of Mrs. Brown’s sister, Mrs. Elmira Robinson. Mrs. Robinson underwent an operation this past week. Mrs. George Robinson of Huntsville, Mo., is also guest of Mr. and Mrs. Robinson. * * *■ Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Smith and daughters Raymona and Shir ley of Sedalia, Mo., were called to Lincoln because of the death of Mrs. Smith’s sister, Mrs. Ola Belle Baker. Others here because of Mrs. Baker’s death were Mrs. Velda Ward, Omaha, a daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Willis Baker, Omaha, son; Mr. Lewis Baker, Chicago, son; Mrs. Delores Kitch en, St. Joseph, Mo.; Miss Betty Smith, Mx-s. Madeline Pettis, Mrs. Marxine Fields, Mrs. Nadine Mc Cowan, Mrs. Marie Greene, all of ^ Omaha and Mrs. Mable Sheppard of Sedalia, Mo. * * * Phylis Joyce Bradford was win ner in a popularity contest held at the Church of God in Christ Sunday evening, having sold $12.50 worth of votes. Other par ticipants were Quay Westley, Shirley Cason, Vera Cason, Joe Nathan McWilliams, Lemuel Jen nings, Montie Joe Bradford and Donovan Gattus. * * * Mr. Herbert Jackson returned Saturday May 8 after tw-o weeks in Grennup, Ky., where he at tended the funeral of his uncle and great aunt. Mr. Jackson re lates that there was three feet of floodwater in the houses of their neighborhood at the time. * * * Anne Birdsall presented 40 stu dents in piano recital at the city library April 23. Miss Griggsby, who went as an observ er, is a student in the Graduate school of social work at the Uni versity of Nebraska. Civil Rights Parley in Omaha The question “How does Omaha stand on civil rights for its mi nority group?” will be discussed Sunday at the second in a series/ of inter-racial forums. The meeting will start at the Near North Side YMCA, 2213 Lake Street, at 3 p. m. The se ries is sponsored by the depart ment legislation of the Nebraska Federation of Colored Women’s Clubs. Vi teasp<»on Worcestershire sauce, Vi teaspoon Combine all ingredients and place in heatproof bowl or pan that will fit into your pressure pan. Tie waxed paper over bowl. Place on rack with 2 cups water in pan. Cook at 15 pounds pres sure for 20 minutes. Vi eup Spry 2 eggs 2 ounces chocolate 1 cup sugar Vi cup sifted flour 1 teaspoon vanilla Vi teaspoon baking 1 cup nuts, cut powder coarse Vi teaspoon salt WITH APPETIZER—crunchable bites of savory goodness Cheese Bites Butter or fortified margarine, 2 tablespoons Wheat cereal biscuits (bite sise). 1 cup Salt, Vi teaspoon American process cheese, grated, Vi eup Melt butter or margarine in skillet over low heat. Add cereal; sprinkle with salt and stir gently1 then sprinkle with cheese and continue to stir over low heat until cheese melts. Cool and store in a covered jar for nibblers or serve warm at once. Makes enough for 4 servings. Banana or Cranberry Whip Beat 2 egg whites with Vs tea spoon salt until stiff but not dry; gradually beat in 2 tablespoons sugar, then Vz cup mashed ba nanas, 1 cup jellied * cranberry sauce and 2 teaspoons lemon juice.
