Memory Verse: “Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace, § good will toward men.” Luke 2:14. Application. For our Christmas lesson we have “The Prince of Peace.” A human story that will never grow old. The first half of our scripture is taken from Isaiah that great prophet who foretold the first coming of Jesus, and his virgin birth. This season of the year in par ticular, should be a season of peace and joy, but sad to say we give our gifts to those who give us. Too often we give more than we can afford. Seven-eighths of the world is hungry today. Millions of-little boys and girls will not have bread this Christmas let alone a sled or doll. As you eat your turkey and gather around your gaily lighted tree, can't you see the gaunt eyes and hollow cheeks of these little tikes and think of the “Prince of Peace who was born in a manger, and lived to say: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” The last half of our lesson takes up the second coming of Jesus, not on a mission to teach men how . to live, but as King to all the faithful. Then, there will be no gaunt •yes, or hollow cheeks. All will be well fed. Peace will abound, for the trouble makers will be “Cast into outer darkness.” *-x.<rx^r^4* x.«»*V4rx,«»-v*rv4rv*» •V4*<<te | Jxxn. This is a busy world in which we live! Although this seems to be a trite statement, I wonder if we shouldn’t think about it as it ap plies to each one of us indi vidually. Are we TOO busy? On the first of the month, did we pay the hired girl her salary J promptly, or was she asked to wait until the next day because we didn’t think we had time to make out her check? She has given her services generously and promptly, can’t we do as much7 Did we give the newsboy a ’’‘promise of later payment-so he’d have to make another trip in the cold, or did we invite him to step inside a minute and warm him self while we gave him his faith fully earned few pennies? Did we go to church, or was | there a meeting at the lodge which forced us to stay at home and get dinner over early; or did we stay at home because of the late party at the club last night? God is not neglectful in giving us of his blessing, nor will *He be too busy to give us what we justly deserve if we neglect our worship and service to Him. Did we go over and greet the stranger in the corner and invite him to come again, or did we have to spend half an hour trying to find Mrs. Jones to see if she had forgotten the ribbon to tie around j _ (TliLLER C PAtnE We of the Urban League—The Board of Directors, Staff and Membership—wish to do our share • in sowing the seeds of Peace and Joy, in a world sorely in need of ' Peace and better understanding. We hope for You and Yours, A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS URBAN LEAGUE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. URBAN LEAGUE STAFF. the flowers tor the banquet? Did we teachers give Johnny a pat ©n the back for a 95% in his arithmetic test, or did we scold him because he chewed the eraser off the top of his pencil? Are we so busy pushing across a schedule that we do not take time for a friendly chat, or to offer praise for something well done? Did we offer to help the little old lady who carried a large sack of groceries as she struggled to get off the street car, or did we fuss because she was so slow just when we were in a hurry to get home to read the evening paper before Father got it? Did we offer to give help or [ counsel to the unhappy child, or did we just have to be at the i Woman’s Club tea to exchange newsy bits erf information with Mrs. Gad About? Many homes today are unhappy because they are used as hotels by the various members of the family who come only to eat, sleep or to get fresh clothing. Each member seems anxious to hurry to his place of individual interest in stead of availing himself of family love and companionship by spending some time at home. We all rush and hurry, and what do we accomplish that is really worthwhile? I’m convinced that I’m too busy! Are you? What are problems? Problems are sign post on the road to God. One must never tose time in vainly regretting the past, nor in complaining against the changes which cause us disconcert, for change is the very essence of life. _—AN'ATOLE FRANCE.
