Handy Subject: Religion in Practice. Scripture Text: James 1:22-27, 2:14-20. Memory Verse: Faith, if it has no works, is dead. James 2:17. Present day setting: Success is a magic word that all of us are interested in. Any thing out of the ordinary, wheth er in food, work or play, that comes to our attention, calls for a request of the recipe. The Bible repeatedly tells us in its pages the recipe for suc cessful Christian living with e ternal happiness as our reward. Let us look at a few of the in gredients printed there: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth” Jos. 1:8. “Me ditate there in day and night.” Then thou shall make thy way prosperous and thou shall have good success.” “Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only.” James gives us a three-fold test of “pure religion.” 1. Those w'ho have it bridle the tongue. 2. They visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction. 3. They keep themselves un spotted from the world. So todays lesson deals in works, just as last Sunday’s lesson dealt with faith. Truly the two go hand in hand. Show me your faith and I can see your works. There never was a man or wo man who really felt the love of Jesus burning on the altars of their hearts, that did not want every one else to have the same experience and be willing to go out and work to that end. -n Correcting Faults By Edith L. Reid Many a well-meaning mother is laboring under a false idea of what really constitutes a training in right habits and proper atti tudes in her child. Often she thinks she is correcting a fault ging at the child, or at best shoot when in reality she is only nag ing wildly at the mark. Here is Edward. He is care less with his napkin. ’T’ve been trying for six months to get him to fold it and put it in the ring,” his mother observed, as we were clearing the table; “but he does it only about one time in ten.” Now Edward’s mother was actu ally sincere in her remark. Ima gine! By her own admission she! had struggled six months on one little point of discipline. At the next meal I watched Edward. It was noon and before he was quite thru with his lunch his boy chum rang the doorbell and Edward dropped everything and dashed to school, of course without fold ing his napkin. At dinner that night, we were going for a ride and everyone hurried, Edward included; and no one paid any attention whether he folded his napkin or not. Without elaborat ing further, you mothers get the point.
