After looking at the condition in Freedmen’s, the House Appro priations Committee decided that it wasn’t asking for sufficient funds, and agreed to give $409, 000 more than it sought. Howard University received $1170.00 less than the $4,107,650 it wanted however, the approved budget for 1948 fiscal year is $1,528,000 more than it received in 1947. The $409,000 added by the House Committee brought the Freedmen’s budget to $2,192,000, which is $1,271,000 more than last year. The funds will be used to in crease the staff of graduate nurses from 89 to 248; about 94 domestic and medical attendants will be added and $80,000 in new equipment will be purchased. Eight resident physicians and two interns will be added to the pre sent staff of 40, of whom 16 are interns. Howard will maintain 116 more instructors for its numerous vet erans, and will start plans for three men’s dormitories, an ad ministration building, a law school, a biology building and a greenhouse. -n Hear The Southernaires -o Easier Service Robert H.
