Our Children By Mrs. W. B. Davis A A / Out of The Mouths of Babes Mrs. W. B. Davis Shirley our littlfc neighbor, arose early one morning, an hour earlier than usual. Her mother exclaimed, “aren’t you up early?” “Oh no!” quickly replied the three year-old, “I slept fast”. That is child philosophy, but; very sensible we must agree. We are sometimes at a loss for an swers to some of the questions the little minds put into words, a truthful answer, however deep, is the only solution, lest they later learn the truth and doubt our integrity. Many parents, let us hope, have learned that repres sions may be bad for children, that they give rise to neurotic disorders or character distortions of many kinds. Consequently they have tried to avoid acting as high handed brow beaters, but try to reason with them in simple language yet convincingly. The fact that a child acquired a con science early in life, despite ap pearances to the contrary, is re sponsible for there being more than one way of producing “guilt” in children and the anxieties and neurotic handicaps which spring from it. Newsman Admitted To Galleries (Continued from page 1) the President praised them, in making the Willkie awards. This is a denial of opportunity which is not only undemocratic but inimical to democracy.” The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette editorially commented: “T h e rejection of his (Lautier’s) appli cation parallels the barring of Negroes from the National The atre, the only legitimate theatre in Washington. There is no ex cuse for either practice in the national capitol, where people of all races and colors share many activities without the slightest trouble.” In Chicago, John H. Sengs tackle, chairman of the NNPA Committee on Accreditation of Negro Correspondents to the Con gressional press galleries, sent out a request that telegrams and let ters protesting Lautier’s exclu sion be sent to the Senate Rules Committee. He said that NNPA would fight the case to a finish. ****** PRATTIS VETERAN JOURNALIST Mr. Prattis, who was admitted to the galleries reserved for pe riodical correspondents, is a vet eran newspaperman of long ser vice with Chicago and Pittsburgh publications.
