SOCIAL BRIEFS Among the persons reported affected by the influenza are: Mrs. Frank Burden, Mrs. Felix Polk, Rev. M. L. Shakespeare and Mr. Willie Page. Mr. Rudolph Parsons returned from Baltimore, Md., Wednesday where he was called to the bed side of his mother, who passed away shortly after his arrival. Funeral services were held in Baltimore on Thursday. The Urban League Men’s Club was delighted with pictures of Africa shown Wednesday night b.K Dr. Aaron McMillian. The falinding of the Willis F. Pierce Memorial Hospital by Dr. and Mrs. McMillian was featured. The training of nurses, doctors and the treatment of disease was most interesting as we followed the story from its primitive stage to a more civilized state. Pierce Memorial Chapel, named for his father, in which services were held at 8:30 each morning was exceedingly interesting, t It not only gave a greater ap [ preciation for Africa but of the rapid development by the Mc ► Millians. Among the many social | courtesies given in honor of Mr. a^ 4rs. John Miller was a re ception Tuesday afternoon in the Lounge of the Urban League. Mrs. Edna Page and Mrs. J. H. Dean were hostesses. Assisting with the serving were Mrs. Burt Newton, Mrs. Dorothy Lewis, Mrs. Roma Henderson, Mrs. Norman Caesar and Mrs. Pauline Ivory. Seventy-five guests were in vited. Dr. and Mrs. Aaron McMillian were out-of-town guests. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Dean were pleasantly surprised on their anniversary with a dinner given in their honor by their daughter, Mrs. Harold Stith. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Botts, Mrs. Anna Smith, and Mr. Lawrence Dean. Mrs. Merle Dean presented the couple with a beautiful cake. Mr. and Mrs. Dean were further surprised with a covered dish luncheon. Those partici pating and bringing presents were Mesdames Dorothy Lewis, Anna Newton, C. O. Shepherd, J. Atkins and Maurice Copland Out of the city last Sunday were Mrs. Joe Green and daughter, Dorothy.
