R. E. Handy Paul in Athens and Corinth Scripture—Acts 17: 22-28, 1 Cor. 22-25. Golden Text—“For other founda tion can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” I Cor. 3:1. Present Day Application— Missionary Paul in traveling and preaching the gospel, in to day’s lesson has reached the greatest city in all Greece, Ath ens. Athens was full of philosophers and learned men and Paul met many of them. One day as they were escorting him about their city, they came upon a place, where they had erected many places to worship their pagan Gods, whose numbers were legion. Paul noted a shrine with this inscription: “TO THE UNKNOWN GOD.” These men with all their learn ing did not want to leave out any God, so the shrine, lest they be caught short. Paul was filled with pity at their ignorance of the very thing they neede most, and standing on the now famous Mars’ Hill preached Jesus Christ to them and and made known the “un known God.” We as Christians, when we see people moving in darkness, must not “just feel sorry” for them, but through our conversation, our songs and actions, lift up Christ, who gives joy for sorrow, ease for pain, light for darkness and life for death. In so doing we leave with those we touch a new vision of Christ. Many a soul has been won or lost for Christ, by our daily con versation. * BOB’S MARKET F. K.
