A gripping v'r''e s'-ory f the l)at tle of a ?tronpr man to overcome the taste for liquor, powerfully depicted with genuine dramatic force. The story toils of the e::pul-ion of Cal houn from colkp'c, where he was one of the most popular men and star niaycr of the foot hall team. A rival j work. learns of his inherited taste for liquor and brings about his disgrace by get ting him drunk. Ih loses his sweet heart aiul flees to the we.-t, win re lie coniinues his debauchery and Jinally marries a dance hall frirl. 'Of all Calhoun's old friends, hut one stands by him- Crooky, a cripple-.! newsboy. It is through Crooky'.s. de votion that he is saved from himself. Calhoun finds his wife in the arms of another, and after ? fijrht, in which a lamp is upset which iprnites, the cabin. Calhoun and Crooky flee to the mountains, helicvincr that his wifv- and the ether man were destroyed in the fire. While up in the Taountains Crooky prevails upon his fnend to stop drink ine: The fir;ht is a bitter one and when Calhoun learnr, that his uncle has died and left him heir to his es tate, he refuses to leave until he is sure that the craving for drink had permently ceased. On his return to civilization he learns that the woman he married had duped him as she had a hu:-band at the time of her marriarre to Calhoun. The crirl of his college days had not fortrotten him and realizing that he had cone throuprh the fire accepts him at his new value. Popular William Russell, one of the ablest of screen stars, as Foster Cal houn, makes this role stand out as one of the greatest of film character izations. The intricacies of the role pive him ample opportunity to display his remaikable powers for forceful acting. .
