proposed is unconstitutional and

states. Eleven democrats from the
south. Senators Swan son and Martin,
Yir'-rsnia; Cnderwrod. Alabama; Yar
daman. M ississippi ; James and Reck
ham, Ktntucky; Ransuell, Louisiana;
Robinson, Arkansas; Shields, Ten
nessee; Culbertson and Shepnard,
Texas, voted for it.
In order to expediate consideration
of the measure in conference, senate
conferences were appointed immedi
ately after the final vote was taken.
The only amendment adopted would
extend the bill's provisions to bar all
products of establishments employing
children from interstate commerce.
The house measure was directed only
against those on which labor actually
had been employed.
Senator Roiah did not offer the
amendment he had drawn, attach injr
the immigration bill as a rider in
order to force action on it at this
session. Amendments to make the
prohibition apply only to children
under 14 years of ajre who could not
read or write, to make; it apply to
children on farms, -and to postpone its
effective date for two vears were
voted down.
The bill as passed- would prohibit
interstate commerce in the product of
any mine or quarry in which children
under 10 years of aye have been em
ployed, or in the product of any mill,
cannery, workshop, factory or manu
facturintr plant in which children
under 14 years of aye have worked.

court held that the evidence offered

a crime had been committed and ac
cordingly the complaint airainst the
men was dismissed by the court. The
evidence failed to show clearly that
the men had made any atcmpt to
make a jretaway with the horses, and
of course they could not be bound
over to the district court, and were
riven their liberty.
