THE FLATTE ON A BENDER.
Kearney, Neb., May 25. The Platte
river is on the biggest boom at this
place ever before known. It is out of
its banks and houses adjacent thereto
are filling with water. Traveling
communication between Kearney and
the southern Platte country is entirely
intercepted. The approaches to the
bridge are entirely washed away. The
dam of .the dry channel is also gone.
This was the first channel south of
the Platte, and was dammed up jsome
time ago by the commissioners to cur
tail the bridge expenses. A heavy rain
this afternoon, accompanied by hail.
No damage done.
STARTLING DISCOVERY.
Duluth, Minn., May 25. Duluth is
all excitement over the alleged dis
coveries of gold and silver within its
limiti. Last fall parties claim to have
discovered signs of silver near the ceu-
tral prt of the city. The owners of
the lota t'fean excavations this week.
Specimens are- taken out which indi
cate the presence of considerable sil
ver, but it is too early yet to tell much
about the ore. Operations have been
begun in other portiona. Jt js claimed
that gold has been found. There is 11
another discovery back of the city in
the valley, whejre it is claimed silver
and lead have been found in abund

II. P. Peterson, a reliable man just
here from the ranch of Don Suan, So
nora, reports the arrival of a Mexican
courier at the ranch yesterday, from
the direction of the headquarters of
the 2Ieican army at Opsura, with in
formation that Crook had an engage
ment with a large idy of Indians
near Guayacanope, in the SierrS Mad
ras, last week. Crook had sent for
ward a portion of the San Carlos
scouts, who were surprised by the hos
