Mrs. Fomey, of 1'inwnville, died
Tuesday forenoon, at the residence of
her blether Robert Moirison. She
was over eighty years of age.
Wilson and Delhm Corey and 'fam
ilies, of Sutton, Nebr , are visiting
Seymour IIowo and family. The
Messrs. Corey are nephews of Mr.
Howe.
Ed Ferneau, candidate on the popu-'

torney, was in town Tuesday. Ed Is
a first rate young fellow-v but will not
get into olllce this year.
Kemp Colerick, who was to have had

Williams, Saturday morning, Sept.lOth,
1800, a big boy, who lias been named
Franklin Bryan Williams, after his
uncle Frank Skeen and the candidate
for president who will bo defeated in
November.
C. Shuck had some of his fine Berk
shires on exhibition at the county
fair, and in spito of the fact that he
had beon sick for somo time, and un
able to give them tho attention they
needed, Mr. Shuck took neaily every
premium he went after. He goes to
Salem next week,

debate the following question:

the platloun that Bryan is running on.

On Wednesday .derritt Elliott was
taken to Stella and Dr. Andrews ex
tracted the piece of iron that Merrit
got in Ids eye almost two weeks bo
fore. The sliver oYiron lri about one
eighth of an inch in length. It cannot
yet be told whether lie will lose the
sight of the eye or not. Strange to
say, Merritt has suffered very little
from the presence of the piece of iion
i.. ids eye.
Joe Littrell had his trial last Mon
day, before .Judge Lambert, for assault
on Minor Taylor. After listening to
the testimony the judge fined Joe live
dollars and costs, amounting to about
337 00. On the second elr-ge of using
the revolver promiscuously Joe was
bound over to the district court, the
bond being fixed at $200. Ho declared
lie would not pay the fine or give bond
and went to jail, but afterward ovi
dently changed his mind, as he gave
bond and paid his fine Wednesday.
Mrs. Ellen Grieves Bennett was
horn in St. Lawrence county, New
York, Feb. 12th, 1820. In January,
1845, she was married to Samuel Ben
nett. In 1855 thoy moved to Iowa
with their small family, and three
years later moved to Nemaha county,
Nebraska, where sho mado her home
until her death, which occurred at 3:30
a. in. Friday, Sept. 18th. The fun
oral services were held at the M. E.
church Saturday afternoon, the sermon
being preached by Rev. J. W. Taylor.
Mrs. Bennett has for several years
been a member of that church.
The Bryan democrats and the popu
lists in this county have been tryingto
make people believo these aro separate
organizations, but have hard work do
ing so. At tho democratic county
convention held a few weeks ago Dr.
Kay and Dr. Keeling wore soloctod as
members f tho central committee from
Nemaha precinct. Dr. Kuy refused to
act, so Joe Littrell, who is one of the
populist leaders and who was a dele
gate to the populist county convention
last spring, was put on in the Dr.'s
place; We suppose ho was tho most
representative democrat they could
find in the precinct.

prettiest baby. He deserves the honor,
but he could not well help being good
looking, willi such a fine appearing
father and haiidsomo mother.

ing the M. E. Conference at Hastings:
The Conforonoe was conceeded by
all those present to have been the
most spiritual ever neld in Nebraska
Methodism p.avs twenty-four million
dollars a year for all pin poses for
spreading the gospel- enough to build
all tlio World's fair buildings even
year.
The Nebraska Conference lias paid
for all church purposes 0 for each
member- man, woman and child -during
tho confeienco year ending in
September, 18!)0.
We are told that a poll was taken of
the ministers present at the conference
as to their political preference. Ouo
minister only was a democrat, four
were for free silver, and over one
hundred were for McKinlev.

The republican meeting Friday night
of tliis week was a good one. The hall
was full, and Congressman Strodo
mado a fine speech, which was well re
ceived, The Brownville band gave
somo excellent, music. The band has
greatly Improved in tlio last few weeks,
and now gives some good music. Tho
Nemaha glee club was liberally ap
plauded for their excellent singing.
