Strange to say, Merritt has suffered very little from the presence of the piece of iion i.. ids eye. Joe Littrell had his trial last Mon day, before .Judge Lambert, for assault on Minor Taylor. After listening to the testimony the judge fined Joe live dollars and costs, amounting to about 337 00. On the second elr-ge of using the revolver promiscuously Joe was bound over to the district court, the bond being fixed at $200. Ho declared lie would not pay the fine or give bond and went to jail, but afterward ovi dently changed his mind, as he gave bond and paid his fine Wednesday. Mrs. Ellen Grieves Bennett was horn in St. Lawrence county, New York, Feb. 12th, 1820. In January, 1845, she was married to Samuel Ben nett. In 1855 thoy moved to Iowa with their small family, and three years later moved to Nemaha county, Nebraska, where sho mado her home until her death, which occurred at 3:30 a. in. Friday, Sept. 18th. The fun oral services were held at the M. E. church Saturday afternoon, the sermon being preached by Rev. J. W. Taylor. Mrs. Bennett has for several years been a member of that church. The Bryan democrats and the popu lists in this county have been tryingto make people believo these aro separate organizations, but have hard work do ing so. At tho democratic county convention held a few weeks ago Dr. Kay and Dr. Keeling wore soloctod as members f tho central committee from Nemaha precinct. Dr. Kuy refused to act, so Joe Littrell, who is one of the populist leaders and who was a dele gate to the populist county convention last spring, was put on in the Dr.'s place; We suppose ho was tho most representative democrat they could find in the precinct.
