Tho alterations which hove been in progress at Tho Leader Department store for tho past five weeks have been comptcted and as a result n wonderful transformation has been made in that p'op'ular merchandizing establishment. Tjio changes have been so varied and radical that tho rooms arc scarcely recognizable, and certainly tho changes have udded much toward enhancing tho beauty of the rooms and tho conven iences of doing business, and will materially and to tho comfort of cus tomers and owner alike. Oh the ground floor changes have been particularly radical. The overhead platform In tho center of the room has been torn put and a seven-foot stair way leading to the second floor con structed. In the extreme south end an overhead platform lias been erected sufficiently large to provldo n private ofllco for Mr. Pizer, a station for the cashier nnd space for tho packngo wrapper. New cases, counters and sholvlpg have been added, now steel celling put on, both floors aro heated from a new heating plant, the walls have boon repapcred and tho wood work repainted, and n telephone and n writing desk have been added for the convenience of patrons. The Improve ments have added much to the reflec tion of tho light during tho day, and at night n dual system of gas and electric lights mako tho room as brilliant as day. The stock is being arranged so as to show to best advantage,, which is of great benefit to tho customers. In the clothing department handsoirio closed cases will display the stock to best advantago and nt tho same time keep It neat and clean. In the ready-to-wenr department, which occupies the entire north side of the second floor, closed cases with sliding glass doors extend along tho sldo and ends, in which nro displayed tho suits, coats and jackets. Hero Is also found nn alteration department, with ii competent seamstress in charge. Large mirrors, chairs nnd tables are among tho furnishings of this depart ment, and tho floor Is neatly carpeted Tliisjreudy-to-woar department is one of Tho Leader's strong lines. Tho south Bide of the second floor Is occupied by tho carpot, rug, bedding and trunk department nnd these lines are vory complete. The east end of tho second floor is. used as tho millinery department which this fall will bo made a Special feature, and leading off tho millinery is a sur plus stock room. In plnmfing tho alterations neither oxj)o'vEjo or tirno was spared, and tho mairt objects in view were to provide bettor ' light, a bettor display of Btock, groater facilities fordoing'businoss and bettor accommodations for patrons. Conductor Forsythe in sorting over lottcrs tho other day run across an in vitation to the annual May Party of Division 88, B. of L. E., held May 1st, 1884. Thirty-three names appeared on the list of committees, and of theso thirty-three only seven are now resi dents of North Plnttc. Many of the remaining twenty-six have passed to the beyond, nnd the remainder are Bcnttored from the Alleghcnles to the Pacific ocean. A perusal of this invitation of twenty seven yenrs ago forcibly reminds one of tho chnnges which occur In North Platte, and brings back memories of pleasant association with those who hnvo left us.
