The department was called out Sat urday to extinguish a fire that burned the chicken houso on the premises of Bert Chamberlain. Katfo Brown, that kl'ndly woman so beloved by all, took its flight. For two years Mm Brown had been in poor healthT the breaking down following a life of won dcrful activity, and for several weeks prior to the ond the spirit hung in the balance. Dear as she was to the de voted daughters and son. death came as n relief for she endured intense suffering of body, and that suffering was anguish to those who loved her so well. Mrs. Brown was ready to nn swer the call of the Master; in her last conscious moments she spok of the ' peace which had come to her, "that nnnnA thaf nnaoath nil tinrlnrat nrtAlntr9 . . . . ... ... ... ana in mo enu me soui loit ita earthly environments as she calmly slept. Few are those in North Platte who did not know "Nurse" Brown; there are none who knew but held her in high esteem; she was universally re spected by reuson of hor kindly nature, her christian spirit nnd the thorough ness of her Bervi"e in her vocation. Every home she had visited feels that it has lost u friend. Tho funeral .will be held at the Pres bytorinn church tomorrow afternoon nt 2:30. Rev. Thos. B. Greenlee, of Coun cil Bluffs, will conduct the services, this request having boen made by Mrs. Brown. The deceased was born in Edinboro, Scotland, Sept. 9th, 1838, and wns mar ried in that city in 18G4. Soon after tlio marriage they enme to Cannda where thoy remained for three years, thence back to Scotland for six months. Thoy then came to the United States and locating in Williamsport, Pennn., remained there for eight ycnr3, and thenco to North Platte, arriving hero In 1880. In 1900 Mr. Brown died. She leaves five children, Mrs. Fred Beller of Freewater, Ore., Mrs. Frank Powers, Mrs. Mnggle Hall, Mrs. Annie Brown, and Alex Brown, all of this city, also twelve grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one sister in Scotland. Ward Smith, the well known Grand Island train dispatcher, died suddenly at his home in that city at bIx o'clock last evening. The deceased had been employed as dispatcher nt Grand Island for many years, and was very popular with the Second district employes. By thorn his death is very much regretted. Vivian Delavero, a female who for merly made North Plntto her abiding placo and on several occasions created considerable furore, was arrested in tho Chinese restaurant nt Grand Island Saturday night on the chargo of being l too free and handy with a gun. j Wo sell copper plato calling cards and wedding Invitations. Bert Stafford, nn unmarried man of Grand Island was burned to death yes terday morning, the result of nn ex plosion of gasoline. He --was kindling the fire when the oil in the can he was handling exploded and so badly burned him that he died five hours later.
