After a painful illucsss which lasted several months and waB caused by cancer. II. M. Slack died ast nil: lit shortly before ten lock. Several weeks ago the liysiciaus pronounced hN case hopeless and during that .time he has had several sinking spells but s tremendous vitality enabled him to rally from them but at last xhausted nature cave up thc attic and despite his previous fearful sufferings he passed quiet ly to his long lost rest. Mr. Slack was born in Cleveland n 1835 aud spent most of his younger years in Ohio. When the war broke out he enlisted in one of thc Ohio regiments and served his country faithfully until he was ischarged. He came to Nebraska n thc seventies and has made his home in this state ever since. At thc time he was taken ill he was in the employ of the Union Pacific in the Bhops at this point. Several years ago he waB wedded to Mrs. D. Dickinson, who survives him. no uciintte arrangements nave as yet been made for thc funeral. Mr. Slack was a very quiet up aseuming man but was straight- forward, honorable and upright, and Ills death causes regret to a large circle of friends. Hog Wanted.
