Elliott informing the board that he has completed his contract for the construction of a bridge across Fox Creek at Hanson's Mill, It is ordered by the board that Commissioner Carpenter proceed to the place and inspect said bridge and report his findings to this board. The Union Pacific enriched the treasury of Dawson county last week to the extent of $29,624.79, that being the amount of its taxes. The farmers at Lexington, Co zad and Gothenburg arc taking hold of the proposition to raise su gar beets very enthusiastically and there is now every indication that a large acreage will be planted in Dawson county, as well as in our own county. The guests and employes of the Commercial hotel atCozad woke up one morning last week to find the hotel minus a landlord, he having departed in the night without noti fying anyone ot his intentions. Quite a number of the employes arc minus wages which had not been paid. Gold has been discovered at Hart villc, a vein of ore having been opened up which essayed at a good figure; five pounds of rock yielding Bixty grains of gold. A large num ber of claims have been staked out, The town was already a lively place and 'with a gold fever on it will see a boom which hasn't been equaled in any town for some tunc. Thos. Richards, a passenger on train No. 101 Thursday afternoon, met with a peculiar and painful ac cident at Sidney, lie got off there to get a lunch and while he was eating the train started. In his hurry he boarded the smoking car and not recognizing his Bunouud ings, thought he was on the wrong train and jumped oh. As he jumped he struck the journal box and cut a gash in his head which necessi tated a surgeon's attention. A special car containing osteo paths from Kirkville went through Saturday. They were enroute to Santa Barbara where they are going to found an osteopathic in stitute. Train No. 6 was bumped into in the Chevenne vnrds ventnrrin v morning by an engine which was oeing Drought over Irom the round house. The man who was hand ling it seemed to be in considerable ot a hurry and tried to cut in ahead of train No? 6 on the main line but unfortunately he miscalculated the distancs and collided with the mail cars on the train. The McCounell boys marketed hogs at Sutherland the latter part of last week. Will Ebhclman now sports a new carriage which he purchased of Lock & Salisbury at North Platte last Saturday. Mistcs Bessie, Maud and Mabel Eshelmau were pleasantly' Biir priscd by a number of their young friends at their home last Saturday evening. Every one prefceut had a royal time. Bert Lilcs succeeded D, Mc- Lauchliu Monday as collector on the milk route between Nichols and North Platte. There is strong talk of erecting" a Bkiuuning station at NicholB the coming spring. It is a fine location for one. Frank and Will Lokcr, will go to Sidney to work on the B. & M, R R. with the Patterson & Dillon grading outfit this week, A few enjoyed a dance at the home df Mr. and Mrs, J, B. Tolllion, Jr., last Friday eyening. On Friday afternoon of this week there will be a blue rock shoot at Hershey for an oyster supper. Captains will choose sides and the winners will "sup" at the expense of the losers. No one barred. C. B. McKinstry of Sutherland purchased a car of hogs at Her shey of W. O. Thompson and shipped them west from that sta tion the latter part of the week. Price $4.15 per cwt. Messrs. and Meadamcs W. II. Hill and C. E. Spear and Mrs. Eves and Mrs. Dwyer of Hershey attended a pnrty at the home of Mr. and Mrs, J. II. Hershey at North Platte laBt Friday evening. Chris Pearson has lately lost about thirty hogs, big and little, with the same disease that pre vailed among hogs in the valley aBt fall. A 10-horse power engine which iad been ttBcd in operating a saw mill on an island in the Elkhoru river near Fremont broke through the ice Friday afternoon while its owners were attempting to get it across from the island to the river bank. It is thought that the en gine can be saved although it has already sunk four or five feet into the quicksand, but it will be badly damaged.
