L. Talbot wilt, as usual, in reading bis annual report, give an interesting explana tory talk that will, no doubt, contain suggestions valuable to stockmen. T. W. TomlinBon, Secretary of the American National Live Stock Asso ciation, has attended previous con ventions of the Nebraska Stock Growers' Association, and his talks have never failed to please and in struct. He Is conversant with live stock sondltions in the west and mid dle west, and in selecting his own subject for an address never falls to "hit the nail on the bead." He knows what to say and how to say it to be both entertaining and help ful in bis talk. The Department of Animal Hus-( bandry of the University of Nebraska has done a great service for the state, especially we may say during the past few years. We congratulate the officers and membors of the N. S. G. A. on their good fortune in hav ing a representative of this depart ment of the University presort, in the person of Prof. C. B. Lee. Last month the Nebraska Stock roan gave its readers an article on the work of the State Live Stock San itary Board and a picture of its effi cient president, J. H. Bulla, of South Omaha. Mr. Bulla will address the convention on Wednesday afternoon. One advantage to stockmen that hearing him will have over reading a printed article will be in having the privilege of asking questions and having them answered without de lay. We are saying so much in this is sue regarding live stock exchanges and their work that we deem it not necessary to say much concerning thorn, or any one of them, in giving a resume of the convention program, but we want all of our readers to hear A. F. Stryker, secretary of the South Omaha Live Stcck Exchange, in his address on the "Relationship of lbe Commission Merchant and the Exchange to the Shipper," Wednes- rluv nftnrnnnn. AU of the meetings of the con vention at which lectures will be de livered will be open to the public, but the one that will probably te of most interest to persons not engaged In the live stock business will be the Illus trated lecture on "The Prehlstorle Animals of the Nebraska Plains," by Prof. A. C. Whltford of New York. T' opera house should be filled Tuesday night. Not often are Nebraska stockmen privileged to hear an address on a vital subject by a representative of the Bureau of Animal Industry of the United States Department of Ag riculture, but they have the oppor tunity at thj time. The usual program of contests and races has been abandoned, or rather postponed to July 4th, and for that reason it may be that some who have been accustomed to come to Alliance at the time of the convention of the N. S. G. A., more on account of the sports than because of the busings for which the annual meetings are held, may be absent this year; but. because of the excellent program that has been provided to interest and en tertain stockmen, it seems probable now that the number of persons en gaged in the live stock industry who will be here will be larger than ever before. The attendance ought to be large. Men of state and national reputation will participate in the deliberations of the convention and adresB the meetings. Read the program la the adjoining column. As you will see. It will certainly be both interesting and Instructive, a program worth while and one worth coming many miles to hear. It is difficult to suf'iclcntly em phasize the importance of this con vention. Every Nebraska stockman who can do so should attend. It is seldom that stockmen have an oppor tunity to hear in so short a time ad dresses from men who are so prom inent and acknowledged authorities on the subjects which they will die-cuss. give an address on Wednesday after noon on "Blackleg and Infectious Ab ortion." Perhaps no other man has, within he last year or two. Btlrred up the subject of marketing live stock as has Edward L. Burke of Omaha, vice chairman of the market committee of the National Live Stock Association. One good thing that may be said in advance for his address is that it will create discussion, if it operates at has previous addresses mane on the same subject by him; and discus sion leads to investigation and that to education. After having mentioned those from abroad who will participate in the program of the , convention, It would be an inexcusable omission to make no mention of the homo talent that will help to make the event a success. The address of welcome by Hon. Earl D. Mallery, president of the Alliance Commercial Club, will be cordial and will help to make vis itors feel at home and enjoy their stay in this city; Hon. Robert Gra ham, president of the Nebraska Stock Growers' Association, under stands the livu stock business and Industry of weHtern Nebrusl a "from A to Ixxard" and will have some re marks that will be instructive, be sides presiding at the sessions of the convention In his usual pleasing manner; the music, both vocal and instrumental, with which the busi ness and addresses of the conven tion will be interspersed, will delight those who hear it; and last but not least to those who delight to "trip the light fantastic," will be the stockmen's grand ball In the opera house at the close of the convention. 4 n V k thB ,total Income or theithe work of tM women.
