Harper COMMISSIONERS PROCEEDINGS Alliance. Nebr.. Jan. 11, 1916. The Board of County Commission era met in regular session aa requir ed by the atatute. Officers present: J. U. Wanek, chairman, C. L. Hash man and Geo. W. Duncan. Motion by Haahman, and seconded by Wanek. that Geo. V. Duncan be elected chairman for the ensuing year of 1918. Motion carried. The application of Dr. Chas. E. SLagle for the appointment of county physician was considered by the board and it was ordered that said Dr. Chas. E. Slagle be appointed county physician for the year 1916 nd that his contract be extended to cover said period at 1 155 for the 'care of eounty paupers and inmates of county Jail. Motion by Hashman and seconded by Wanek that each member of the county board and the county physi cian be made and constitute the board of health of Box Butte coutny, Nebraska, for the year 1916. Mo tion carried. The following estimates were made for the expense of Box Butte county, Nebraska, for the year 1916: County officers salaries . . .6.000.00 Precinct officers salaries . . 1,500.00 Elections 1.500.00 Fuel and lights 1,000.00 Incidental and criminal . . . 4,000.00 Pauper 1,500.00 Bridges and roads 7,000.00 Unpaid warrants 4,536.00 State insanity account .... 2,000.00 Farmers institute 100.00 Mothers' pension fund .... 1,000.00 Total $30,136.01 As there were no bids on file for the burial of county paupers the cor oner is instructed by the board that If burial is ordered by him to confine burial charges to $28, except where undertaker ia called to make long trips, then additional expense may be allowed subject to the approval of the board and coroner. Motion by Hashman and seconded by Wanek that each commissioner be appointed as special highway com missioner to look after and view roads In their respective districts. The affidavit on filye with the county clerk signed by Emery Cornu in regard to taxes on lot 3 & 4 Block 22 Box Butte Addition to Alliance. Nebraska, was examined and allowed In the sum of $16.99. The board employed John Guthrie to audit the accounts of the various county officers. Whereupon the board adjourned until tomorrow morning, January 13. 1916. Alliance, Nebr., Jan. 13, 1916. The board of county commission ers met pursuant to adjournment. Officers present: Geo. W. Duncan, chairman, C. L. Hashman and J. M. Wanek. Earl D. Mallery appeared before the board and submitted an agree ment as furnished by the regents of the University of Nebraska, for the location of an experimental pumping station for irrigation purposes and after due consideration of the propo sition the board instructed the clerk to correspond with L. W. Chase, sec retary of the state school of Agricul ture and advise that they are ready to accept their proposition. The board investigated certain pauper cases and arrangements were made for their care. Whereupon the board adjourned until tomorrow morning, January 14, 1916. Alliance. Nebr., Jan.' 14. 1916. The annual report of Opal Russell, county superintendent, was examin ed and approved. The application of Opal Russell, county superintendent, to attend the conference of county superintendents to meet at Lincoln, Nebraska, Janu ary 26 and 27, 1916, was approved. It Is the order of the board that the clerk be allowed one deputy at $800 per annum, and an extra clerk at the same rate when the work re quires, both to be paid from the fees of the office as provided by the stat ute. Sec. 7 of the Revised Statutes of Nebraska, of 1913, a resolution was made as fol lows: Be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners of Box Butte County, Nebraska, 1. , That all the territory within the corporate limits of the city of Al liance, Nebraska, lying east of the center line of Laramie avenue there in, and north of the center line of Seventh street therein shall be and comprise the First Ward Precinct of the said City of Alliance. I. That all the territory within the corporate limits of the City of Alliance, Nebraska, lying east of the center line of Laramie avenue there in, and south of the center line of seventh street therein, shall be and comprise the second ward precinct of said city. 3. That all the territory within the corporate limits of the City of Alll ai.ee, Nebraska, lying west of the -12.50 10.00 5.00 Store center of Laramie avenue therein, and south of the center line of sev enth street therein, shall be aad comprise the third ward precinct of said city. 4. Organizes, with Orvilk thtveiiport Captain, mid Dick Wagner Manager, of Team The Alliance Alumni Athletic As sociation have organized a basket ball team which promises to be the U.ii. ever seen in Alliance. The mem bership is composed of experienced players, Including university bmw and others who have played en strong teanss. Orville Davenport ha been chosen captain of the team, and Dick Wagner manager. The team is planning to make trips to neighbor ing towns, the first matched game probably being at Hemingford. On Tuesday evening of this week In a practice game, the Alumni de feated the High School team, which is proof that the A. A. A. A. has a good machine this year. In previous years, the Alliance alumni have been unable io collect a bunch of players that could defeat the high Bchool team. The following men played on the team Tuesday night: Davenport. Darnell, Young, Wagner, CorrelL Thomas, Johnson. The A. II. 8. team will play the Sidney H. S. Friday of this week at the high school gymnasium, and this will no doubt be a hard-fought game, as Sidney has an exceptionally strong team. The Alliance boys are going k to make a good fight, however, and expect to come out of the battle vic torious. The Aniance public should attending and stowing their loyalty a 1 1
