fiE COtJfclER Quilted petticoats have come In fashion again, and those of Japanese silk, which are so light and yet so warm, are found to serve Just the need of the fair mo torists. With this introduction or return of favor, quilted garments in general seem to be accepted. There are jackets which are always a comfort for Invalids, or suitable as morning wraps for any chilly persons when the house is cold. Whole quilted gowns are nowadays well shaped and In rich colors, elaborate embroideries are used with most of those, and trails of silken flowers all down the fronts, on collar, cuffs and pockets, make this a decorative as it is a cosy garment. State Senator and Mrs. A. C. Clark, 7137 Euclid avenue, gave a dinner Sat urday evening In honor of Mr. and Mrs. H. R, Kent Mr. Kent, who has for many years been prominent in Chicago banking and financial circles, has just gone to Lincoln, Nebr., where he will have charge of a leading bank. Mrs. Kent and family will follow him in the spring. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Sayler, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Good now, and Mr. and Mrs. George Cook. Chicago Journal, February second. Mrs. Clara Stopher gave a party to celebrate the thirty-second anniversary of her birth. The guests were enter tained with phonograph music, and dainty refreshments were served. Those present were Messieurs and Mesdames J. B. Baker and James Westfall; Mes dames Hunter, Payne, Laugerman, Kin ney, Fry e. Mays, Gllpers, Burchers, Rain bow, West; Misses Hunter, Payne, Laugerman and Burchers, Mr. Rainbow of Cortland, and Mr. Edward Wessel. On Thursday, at one o'clock, Mrs. E. H. Barbour gave a luncheon for Mrs. A. S. Tlbbets, that being the birthday of both these ladles. Covers were laid for twelve. A birthday cake with sixteen candles attracted the attention of the CU&sts. The ice cream was in the shape of candles which were brought to th" table burning. Each lady was supposed to make a wish as she blew out her candle. A high tea was given Tuesday after noon by Mrs. J. L. Kellogg. As the guests arrived each one was given a flower corresponding to the decorations on one of the tables, and by matching them the places were found at the tables. The sitting room was lighted with pink candles, the dining room with red. A delicious supper of three courses was served. Forty ladles were present. . Mrs. C M. Keefer give a pretty lunch eon on Wednesday, complimentary to Mrs. E. D. Alley, who leaves today for her new home In Boulder, Colorado. The table was lighted by pink candles in sil ver candelabra. Covers were laid for Mesdames E. D. Alley, E. A. Carr, R. J. Flick, Ross Curtice, E. C Merrill, E. J. Kettering, H. C Young, Keefer, Miss Carrie Leland, Miss Grace Ashton. . Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Dobbins gave a dinner Wednesday evening to the ladles who have been teachers of their son Harry, or principals of the buildings in which he has attended school. The guests were Miss Anna Tlbbets, principal of the Capitol school. Miss Cora Hardy, principal of the McKinley school, Mrs. Emma Parker, Miss Anna Howland, and Miss Bertha M. Brown. - Mr. and Mrs. Louis E. Wettling and Mr. and Mrs. Seth W. Eddy will give a card party Monday evening, February sixteenth, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wettling, 116 South Twenty-ninth street Mrs. Wettling will entertain at cards the afternoon of the seventeenth, and Mrs. Wettling and Mrs. Eddy will give a kensington on the eighteenth. - Mrs. L. C Burr and Mrs. John S. Meadows were at home to callers this afternoon. They were assisted by Miss Young of Philadelphia, Mrs. William G. Morrison, Mrs. Lewis Marshall, Mrs. E. E. Henkle, and Mrs. Ross Curtice. Light refreshments were served in the prettily decorated dining room. Mrs. L. J. Dunn returned on Monday from a pleasant visit of two weeks with her sister, Mrs. Wesley Ewlng, in VII lisca, Iowa, and with friends in Red Oak. The southeast and northeast circles of the First Tresbyteran church will be entertained next Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs.1 R. E. Moore. Mrs. F. M. Hall is In Chicago for a fortnight's visit Born to Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Bumstcad, on February third, a son. Mrs. Lewis Marshall will entertain Les Bohemlennes next Wednesday. Mrs. T. F. Lasch will entertain the W. T. M. next Thursday afternoon. Miss Louise Fowler entertained the Thursday night club this week. Mrs. H. B. Clarkson gave a luncheon for Mrs. E. D. Alley on, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Sine will entertain the J. O. C. club Monday evening. Mrs. F. D. Levering has as her guest Mrs. John H. Dennlson of Denver. Miss Margaret Mansfield entertained the Busy Bee club on Wednesday. The W. T. M will give a valentine party next Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Mickey. Doctor and Mrs. F. W. Hill entertained "The Jokers" and a few other guests, Monday evening at cards. Mr. and Mrs.A.E. Kennard entertained the members of the L. A. kensington and their husbands last evening. Mrs. G. W. Rhodes will give a luncheon next Saturday for Mrs. Dennlson, who is the guest of Mrs. F. D. Levering. Mrs. J. W. McDonald, Miss Harrod and Miss Conrad were at home yesterday af ternoon, to callers, and will also receive tomorrow afternoon. A card party will be given this evening at the Kappa Kappa Gamma chapter house. There will be thirty young people present, and euchre will be the game. Miss Mabel Cox will entertain thirty members of Delta Delta Delta at a card party this evening. High Ave will be played, and a supper will be served after the games. The members of Kappa Kappa Gamma living at the chapter house, gave an old fashioned taffy pull Wednesday evening. The alumnae members were guests. Twenty young ladles were present JAMES BURKS HARLEY. ' Three-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry H. Harley. The Saturday night club will give a dance this evening at Walsh halL Miss Sarah Young of Philadelphia is the guest of Mrs. W. G. Morrison. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Kennard will en tertain the V. V. club this evening. The university club will give a dance at Fraternity hall next Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Stearns will enter tain the C D. F. club next Friday even ing. Mrs. E. P. Savage will go to Iowa on Monday. She will be the guest of rela tives while there. Mr. N. A. Huse, of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, spent a part of this week at his home in Norfolk. Alpha Theta Chi fraternity will give a dancing party Friday evening February twentieth, at Walsh hall. Mrs. W. G. Langworthy Taylor and Mrs. Erwin H. Barbour will give a buf fet luncheon next Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Flick had as guests at a box party at "San Toy," Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Keefer, Mrs. E. D. Alley, Miss Grace Ashton. Misses Elizabeth McConnell and Mabel Christy of Omaha came yesterday to at tend the Junior Prom., and are guests at the Kappa Kappa Gamma chapter house. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McDonald gave a box party at "San Toy" Thursday night Their guests were Miss Conrad of Erie, Pennsylvania, Miss Harrod, Doctor and Mrs. H. Flnley Helms. The Degree of Honor kensington was entertained on Thursday by Mrs. R. Burns. About, thirty ladles were pres ent to make plans for a bazaar to be held soon.
