Rev. James M. J. Reade
Reverend James M. J. Reade, rector
at St. Theresa's pro-cathedral, (Catho
lic) has been a resident of Lincoln for
the past three years. He Is forty
eight years of iiRe and belongs to the
Cole-Reade family if Rhode Island,
which extends back far into the pre
revolutionary days.
Two of the ancestors of Rev. Father
Reade were signers of the declaration
of independence. One was a member
of the Cole family and the other was
Colonel Reade, celebrated in the histor
ical annals of Rhode Island.
Father Reade studied in New York.
Boston. Montieal and several other
cities in the east and in Canada. His
first woik in the religious Held was as
missionary among the A ra pa hoes in
Wyoming. Here he remained for sev
eral years. Afterwards he was pro
fessor in a theological seminary and
finally resumed his church work again.
For a time he had a congregation in
New York city and was compelled to
come west on account of failing health.
Since arriving in Lincoln he has had
charge of the work at St. Theresa's.
Father Reade has won the admiration
and affection of his parishioners since
beginning his labors in the Capital
City.
