LIFE'S MAZY WHIRL
The holiday gayeties art- past anil
then- is a lull this week in social do
ings. The last of the Omaha visitors
left on Monday after a round of parties
sufficiently numerous to satisfy the
most insatiable. The presence of sev
eral visitors in the city gave rather
more than the usual eclat to the Unity
cluh dance Tuesday evening. The
parties Kiven by Mrs. Underwood and
Mrs. Hirsching were the only large
card parties of the week except that
to he given this evening hy Mr. and
Mrs. Oakley and Mrs. Maxwell. The
musicales Riven by Mrs. Mitchell and
Mrs. Atwood were pleasant affairs as
was also the Phi Gamma Delta dance
given last night. University people
are just getting settled after their va
cation, and this dance was the first of
their post-holiday functions.

The Unity club gave a brilliant danc
ing party Tuesday evening at Walsh
hall in honor of Miss Frances Levy, of
Sioux City, and Miss Sarbach, of Hol
ton, Kan. Ices were served between
dances. The party was noted for the
large number of handsome costumes
worn. Miss Levy, who is one of this
season's debutantes of Sioux City,
and a sparkling brunette beauty, wore
a Parisian gown of white Brussells net
over taffeta trimmed with white rib
bon, she carried American beauties;
Miss Sarbach, gray foulard, trimmed
with white applique and black velvet;
Miss Connie Sarbach, white organdie
over taffeta: Mrs. Katz. black velvet,
trimmed with renaissance lace, dia

Hirsching gave pleasant card parties
on Wednesday and Thursday after
noons at the home of the former on
South Seventeenth street. The house
was profusely decorated with holly,
evergreens, red roses and carnations.
a color scheme of red and green being
carefully adhered to. Daylight was
excluded and red candles illumined the
house. Both hostesses wore white
gowns and red roses. Master Harold
Hirsching admitted the guests. Six
handed euchre was played. On Wed
nesday Mrs. R. M. Turner and Mrs. 11.
H. Oakley cut for the first prize and
Mrs. Turner won. A bronze statuette
was her reward. As second prize Mrs.
Peter Lau received a pretty water col
or. A two course luncheon, a feature
of which was green ice cream with
candied cherries, was served. The
decorations and prizes for the two
parties were the same. For Wednes
day invitations were extended to Mes

friends last Friday evening in honor of
the Misses Segleke of Omaha. The host
ess was assisted by Mrs. A. G. Davis.
At progressive crokinole prizes were
won by Mrs. Mary Tucker, Miss Keller,
Mr. Hurley Don Carlos and Mr. Smith,
and in shooting vacuum rifles Miss
Lena Segleke and Mr. Marvin Don
Carlos won the prizes. A program of
readings and music by Misses Keller.

She has just returned to her home in Lincoln from a
prolonged visit in Europe and in Washington and other
astern cities. Mrs. Thompson has been absent from Lin
coln since last June. Although charmed by the rare sights
and experiences of her trip, she finds much pleasure in her
return home, where a warm welcome awaits her reappear
ance in the social life of the capital city.

Miss Alice Auld gave a delightful
masquerade hist Friday evening which
gave great pleasure to the young peo
ple present. The impersonations were
varied and some of them were very
clever. Piano and phonograph music
and games were the principal enter
tainment offered. A picture gallery in
which were the baby pictures of many
of the guests afforded amusement. A
sumptuous three course luncheon was

A Des Moines paper of i out date
contains an account of '.i- wedding
of Miss Grace Popjoy, daughter of Mrs.
M. H. Popjoy of Q and Fourteenth
streets, Lincoln, to Mr. Bobert Tuttle
of Des Moines. The marriage was
celebrated at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Willis in Des Moines. The
guests were received by Mr. and Mrs.
Willis and Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Tuttle,
parents of the groom. The bride's
gown was of white Persian lawn hand-
somely trimmed with lace and inser
tion. The ring service was performed
by Reverend A. E. Griilith. Mr. and
Mrs. Tuttle will receive their friends
after February first at 319 Third street,
Des Moines. The bride is a sister of
Mrs. II. F. Peters of this city.

Another new card club has been or
ganized purely for the pleasure of the
members. The club will meet fort
nightly on Monday evening, but the
holidays disarranged dates somewhat,
and the last meeting occurred last Sat
urday evening when the club was very
pleasantly entertained by Mr. and Mrs.
Lee Arnett. Six-handed euchre was
played and dainty refreshments were
served. The next meeting of the club
will occur on January 20th. Members

On Saturday afternoon Miss Ethel
Gray, assisted by Miss Myrtle Keegan,
entertained a company of twenty young
people to celebrate her twelfth birth
day. A gift drawing, other games ami
music helped to make the hours pass
quickly. A birthday cake on which
twelve candles burned was cut and in
it were found a ring, a coin and a
thimble. Miss Winnie Crawford of
Syracuse assisted in serving light re
freshments. The young hostess re
ceived pretty gifts as souvenirs of tne
day.

Mr. and Mrs. J. II. Spencer enter
tained a company of friends who were
together last summer at Lake Okoboji
last Jriday evening in honor of Miss
Iva Beck, of Hampton, Iowa. Cro
kinole was played and the losers in the
game were required to toast marsh
mellows for the winners. Refresh
ments were served. Following were
