.Mrs. J. W. Johnson gave a delight
fully informal morning party last
Thursday to a large number of ladles
at her pleasant home on South Twen
ty seventh street. The house was pro
fusely decorated with chrysanthemums
and roses. The freshness of the newly
fallen snow seemed to add to the en
thusiasm of the ladies. Mrs. Johnson
was assisted in receiving by Mrs. A. L.
Sullivan, Mrs. A. W. Field and Mrs. J.
Stevenson. A delightful duet by Mrs.
K. Lewis Baker and Mrs. A. W. Jan
sen opened the program, followed by
two charmingly rendered solos in re
sponse to hearty encores, both ladies
being in especially tine voice.
The ladies were then presented a
most comprehensive and beautifully
prepared paper by Mrs. II. H. Wheeler
on Motherhood.
Mrs. "Wheeler ranks as one of out
most talented and brilliant clubwomen.
A charming solo by Miso Elma Mars
land concluded the program.
The guests were then Invited into
he dining room, where refreshments
were served by a bevy of charming
young ladies gowned in white, with
accessories of red, that being the color
scheme of the dining room. Miss Rose
McLaughlin presilM at the punch
bowl, assisted by Miss Myrtle Steven
son, Misses Francis and Elma Mars
land and Miss Josephine Poynter.
Those assisting were invited to re
main to an informal luncheon. The

Mr and Mrs. George Woods gave a
pretty euchre party last evening in

A Lincoln Girl With the "King Dodo-Company.
Miss Jessie Hoffman, a petite chor
us singer with a charming mezzo-soprano
voice, who appeared in "King
Dodo" at the Oliver last Monday night,
was formerly a Lincoln girl, living for
seven years in this city. Here she
took a leading part in various amateur
theatricals finally accepting her pres
ent position with the "King Dodo"
management about four months ago.
She is about twenty-four years of
age and an orphan, her mother dying in
a Lincoln hospital about four months
ago. Her work first excited comment
when she took the leading role in the
"Chimes of Normandy" with local op
eratic talent.
Searls, of Atchison. Kansas. The front
parlor was decorated with American
beauties, the second parlor with carna
tions and the library with pearl roses.
Card tables were provided for those
who wished to play and those who
were not so inclined chatted the hours
away. A three course luncheon was
served. A hand painted china plate
and a book were given as prizes at

Mrs. William H. Dorgan gave a six
course luncheon at one o'clock on Mon
day in honor of Mrs. R. M. Simon, of
Denver, who formerly resided in Lin
coln. Meteor roses decorated the table
which was illumined by red candles,
and the bonbons were red to match
the color scheme. Guests were Mes

Mrs. C. II. Eubank gave an informal
"At Home" on Wednesday in honor
of Mrs. G. W. Noble of Omaha. A
large number of Mrs. Noble's friends
called to renew their acquaintance.
Mrs. Eubanks house was decorated
with pink chrysanthemums and ferns.
Mrs. ('. It. Lee poured chocolate, and
Mrs. C. II. Sharp and .Mrs. J. C. Sea
crest also assisted the hostess. Mrs.
Noble left for Omaha this morning.

Mrs. Julia E. Baker, of Chicago,
mother of Mr. E. Lewis Baker, has
taken a suite of rooms at the Lincoln,
and will remain there for the winter
and perhaps permanently. Persons
who met Mrs. Baker when she was in
the city three years ago. will be glad
to welcome this graiious lady to our
midst.
Jessie Hoffman Is graceful and
pleasing on the stage. In the chorus
group her appearance is striking and
she is a valuable addition to the group
of pretty women surrounding the roy
alty in "King Dodo."
Mrs. C. E. Weidman of Lincoln is a
sister of Miss Hoffman. She lives at
319 North Eleventh street. Her hus
band. C. E. Weidman. is foreman of
engine house No. 1, of the Lincoln lire
department.
During her residence in Lincoln Miss
Hoffman was a music teacher, resid
ing on J street. She also was a mem
ber of the choir at Holy Trinity Epis
copal church.
Mrs. Lewis Gregory gave a pretty in
formal luncheon Tuesday at one o'clock
in honor of Mrs. R. W. Jacobs of
Rome, New York. Mrs. Jacobs was one
of Mr. Gregory's parishoners during
the early days of his pastorate In Lin
coln. Mrs. Gregory's guests were Mes
dames Jacobs. J. R. Webster. N. S.
Harwood. S. Theresa Doolittle. Sarah
Leonard. Harriett A. Morse.
Mrs. L. P. Sine entertained the W. C.
T. kensington Tuesday afternoon. At
tractive music was furnished by Miss
Townsend, Mrs. Andrews and Mrs.
Wohlenberg. Anonymous quotations
were given. Light refreshments were
served to the fourteen ladles present.

Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Campbell, who
went to Ios Angeles in the autumn,
have retraced their steps as far as
Denver, where they will remain during
the winter. Two of their sons are in
school there, the other Is on Mr. Camp
bell's ranch in the western part of Col

Mrs. James Martin entertained the
ladies of the Good Times card club at
a kensington on Wednesday. The af
ternoon was spent in pleasant conver
sation and light refreshments were

Chapin have been absent since early
summer, and just returned to Lincoln
a few days ago.

Brandt, of Philadelphia, on Wednes
day. Mr. Brandt is a member of the

Mrs. John B. Wright has resumed
her regular "At Homes" and will re
ceive her friends next Tuesday. The

month are her days at home.
The senior class of the high school
gave a party Saturday evening at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Raymond.
Seventy young people were present.
Games, music and refreshments were
