The handsome house with its beautiful furnishing made an effective setting for the lovely (lowers and elaborate toilettes. Mrs. McMurtry received her quests in an exquisite toilette of black chantilly lace over white taffeta. Many smart costumes were worn by the assisting ladles and the guests. The decorations were very satisfying. In the drawing loom a jardiniere (Hied with long stemmed American beauties was re jected in the mirror. In the sitting room great bunches of chrysanthe mums called forth exclamations of de light. The dining room was a room of beauty. The table was laid with a cloth having a deep border of Mexican drawn work. Down either side of the table was a band of wide pink satin ribbon. A mirror in the centre held a large bowl of pink roses and maiden hair ferns and the delicate fronds of asparagus ferns tilled the interstices in the lace like decorations of the chande lier. Mrs. John IJ. Wright, wearing a gown of real lace over white taffeta and a white aigrette in her hair, served pink ice cream and Mrs. S. II. Hurnhain. in u gown of old rose crepe de chine, poured coffee. They were as sisted by Mrs. Mansfield and Misses IJurnham. Cochrane. Harper, and Fos ter. The punch room upstairs was In green and white. A brass candela brum bearing five green candles in a row stood In the centre of thu table and on one side was a bowl of white chrysanthemums, on the other a large hand-painted china punch bowl, from which a refreshing beverage was served by Miss Edna Harley, assisted by Misses Helen Nance, Frances Gere.
