Omaha's society and business circles
suffer a great loss. With the exception
of a few years at the Shattuck Military
academy and two years in California,

Gty Improvement Society.
The regular meeting of the City Im
provement society was held on Thurs
day morning. The encroachments of
stands on the business streets was given
serious consideration, also the unsani
tary condition of the sidewalks owing to
expectoration and lack of systematic
cleaning. This subject will be brought
to the notice to the sidewalks commit
tee of the city council. At the corner
of Fourteenth and H streets the cross
ing is rendered impassable by the waste
water from the engine at the State
Capital. Individual protests have been
without effect, and the matter will now
be officially presented to the board.
Plans were discussed for the reception
to be given on November seventh in
Walsh Hall to the city officials and
members of the commercial club.
