Mrs. 0. H. Gere served salad and Mre,
C. H. Morrill, assisted by Mesdamea
Ward, Richards and Burnett poured
coffee. The guests were directed to tbe
refreshment rooms by by the vice presi
dents of the club, Meedames J. T. Lees,
Lawrence, Bruner and W. G.L. Taylor.
A handsome Navaja blanket was pre
sented by the club to Mrs. Edgren.
Married, on Saturday, at her home in
Plattsmouth, Mits Nellie O'Bouke to
Mayor Thomas E. Parmalee, Father
Carney performing the ceremony. Miss
O'Rouke was enrolling and engrossing
clerk on Senator Newell'a committee
last winter. Mr. and Mrs. Parmalee
have departed on their wedding trip,
followed by many hearty wishes for a
happy journey from now to the end of
time for them.
Misa Josephine Shute, soprano soloist
at the First Congreuational church and
kindergarten teacher in the Preswtt
Bchool, will leave for an extended Euro
pean tour early next month. Misa
Shute will be accompanied by Miss
Clark, librarian at the Iowa Agricul
tural College.
Mrs. Irving G. Chapin gave a small
six handed euchre party on Tuesday in
honor of her guest, Mrs. W. A. Preston.
Mesdamee Preston, A. G. Billmeyer, A.
E. Kennard, Gerhart, C. I. Jones, A.
D. Wilkinson, Wilkinson of Chicago, R.
T. Brunt, E. R. Welle, R. M. Turner,
M. I. Aitken, and J. F. Hutchins were
the players.
Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Thompson are
spending the month of May in Texas.
The last of the month they will go to
Chicago to attend the marriage of Mrs.
Thompson's sister, Miss Eliza Miller,
after which they will spend several
months in Europe.
The Candle Light club discussed the
Chinese question at the Lindell hotel
on Monday evening, under the leader
ship of Professor E. W. Davis. Messrs.
Sedgwick and Oldham of the supreme
court commission were among the
guests, and both contributed to the
discussion.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Johnson re
turned to Lincoln on Monday. Mr. and
Mrs. Johnson will be at home at 880
North Twenty-sixth street. They were
married on April the twenty-fourth at
Philadelphia, and Lincoln is the tor
minal point ot their tour.
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Oakley announce
the engagement of their daughter
Maude, to Mr. Frank King Clark of
Chicago, Illinois. In the early autumn,
the marriage will take place followed by
a two years' residence in the European
Musical Centres.
The library boaid accepted with re
gret Tuesday night, the resignation of
the librarian, Miss Carrie Dennis, to
take effect June first. Miss Dennis will
later be married to Mr. John S. Reed.
Mr. and Mrs. I. G. Chapin gave a
card party laBt evening to the members
of the L. A. Kensington and their huB
bands in honor of Mrs. W. A. Preston
of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a former mem
ber of the club.
Married, on Tuesday, at the home of
the bride in Knoxville, Iowa, Miss
Gertrude Cornell and Mr. Roy Finarty.
Mr. and Mrs. Finarty will reside at
1219 K street.
The Matinee Mueicale has again been
honored by the re-election ot one ot its
members, Mrs. D. A. Campbell, as vice
president of the western section for the
national federation of musical clubs.
Chancellor and Mr6. Andrews are en
tertaining Mrs. M. J. Boyd of Bloom-
field, New York, and Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph L. Andrews of New Haven, Con
necticut. The City Improvement society held
ita regular meeting Thursday morning
in the Union-Commercial club roomn
Photographs and cuts of ambulances
were displayed and discussed, and it was
found the ambulance fund is rapidly in
creasing,through the efforts ot Mrs.Greg
ory. Mrs. Ogden reported an interview
with Mr. Frank Zehrung, resulting in -his
promise to dispose of the rubbish in the
vacant lot directly east of Herpolaheim
er's. The subject of sidewalks received
special attention owing to the fact that
the secretary had received a painful in
jury from a defective sidewalk. The
appointment was authorized of a com
mittee from each ward to report viola'
tions of the sidewalk ordinance, and
great improvement in eule walks is ex
pected. The society also decided to
join the national federation of improve
ment societies and the national municip
al league.
Mrs. Harry Wilkinson, who has been
the guest of Doctor and Mrs. A. D. Wil
kinson, will leave on Monday for Mic
Bouri where she will visit before return
ing to her home in Chicago.
Doctor A. D. Wilkinson gave a seven
course dinner on Wednesday evening.
Covers were laid for: Doctors Gifford,
Jonas, Crummer, McClanahan, and B.
B, Davia of Omaha; Doctor Simmons ot
Chicago, and Doctors Green, Garten,
Mitchell and Wilkinson of Lincoln.
The regular meeting of the Bohemian
club was held on Wednesday afternoon
with Mrs. J . A. BuckstafT, at tbe Lin
coln hotel.

Saturday from Ft. Worth, Texas, where
she was called by the serious illness of
her Bister, Mrs. Cobb.

A. C. Ferrier.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller ot Princeton, In
diana, brother-in-law and sister of Mrs.
Polk, attended the funeral of Lieutenant
Polk on Wednesday.
Mr. N. C. Abbott, former city attor
ney in Lincoln, has located in Houston,
Texas. He is a member of the law firm
of Coleman and Abbott. His family
still remains in Lincoln.
The beet equipped and most popular
dining hall in the city is the Palace Din
ing hall, 1130 N street. Sunday dinners
a specialty. Best attention paid to fam

Mre. James Irwin of Quincy, Illinois,
is visiting her mother, Mrs. E. A. Polk.
Doctor and Mrs. Edgren and family
will leave next Thursday for their new
home in Sweden.

R. Cox of Lincoln, and Miss Rose Mil
ler of Burwell.
Miss Dorothy Green entertained a
small party of friends on Wednesday
afternoon.
Mrs. Edward Fitzgerald and daugh
ter Ruth are visiting in Chicago.
Mrs. E. J. Osborn is visiting her sis
ter, Mre. C. H. Parmele ot Platts
mouth. Miss Grace Garner ot Omaha, is the
guest of her cousin, Mrs. S. O. Salisbury.
The Honorable John L. Webster,
spent Monday in Lincoln.
Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Dorgan return
ed from Pa Porte, Texas, on Monday.
Doctor and Mrs. Simmons of Chicago,
visited friends in Lincoln during the
session of the state medical association.
