The only important affair was the reception given Thursday afternoon by Mrs. J. E. Hill and her daughters. Mrs. Gertrode Welch acd Mrs- J. H. Rigger, the latter cf whoa will leave on Monday for her Montana home. Mrs. Hill's bose was decorated in exquisite taste fcr the reception. The drawing room was in violet shades, the flowers were English violets acd hyacinths and there were many palms and ferns." Mrs. Hill. Mrs. Welch, Mrs. Big2er and Mrs. Georze Haskell received the callers, and Mra. F. E. Labr. Mrs. Henry Hart ley. Mrs. Mary Phillips acd Mrs. Parker assisted in dotsg the honors. The dic ing room was aglow with scarlet lights. A pyramid o? geraniums acd asparagus ferns occupied the centre of the table and on either corner were silver can delabra tearing scarlet candles acd at tached to die candelabra were bows of scarlet satin ribbon which trailed ef fectively over the whit lisec. Mrs Hicdman acd Mrs. Freeman poared coffee acd were assisted by Miss Hart ley, Misa Polk. Mrs. E. L. Holvoke and Mrs. George Craneer. All were gowctd in white with scarlet trimmings. In a deligbtf oily cool- and restful room op stairs Mesdames Norman Belcher and J. F. Stevens, and Misses Harper, Cun ningham, Loomk and Woodford served ices and the guests resu d acd chatted. Fourteen Kappa Kappa Gammas went to Boulder, Colorado, Thcrsday to organize a chapter of this sorority at the Colorado State university. They will be joined by other Kappcs in Den ver where they will be entertained by dinners, dances acd functions' dear to the heart of girls. The installation at Boulder will be followed by an informal lunch eon. Mise Whiting of this city is grand secretary and has been made the ir-stal-Hcg officer for this occasion. The so ciety that has applied for the charter isihcAlttbae which was organized at the university about three years ago. It has about twenty members aod will receive the chapter came of Beta Ma. Following the installation greetings will be read from all the national officers and from each of the twenty seven chapters. AH will appear in Gree gowns at the banquet. On Saturday, the whole party, numbering fifty, will return to Denver where they will be given a breakfast at twelve o'clock by Mrs. Albert Sechrist. formerly of Lin coln. In the afternoon, the Denver alumnae association will introduce the new chapter by a reception give c to all members of Delta Gamma acd Pi Beta Phi resident in Denver and Boulder Saturday evening the formal banquet will be held at the Palace hotel, acd Miss Whiting will be toast mistress. The party will spend Easter Suoday in Denver, leaving for home the following afternoon. Mr. Harry Melick entertained the sophomore class of the high school very pleasantly with games, music and danc ing Thursday evening in honor of his cousin. Mis Anna May Hunter of Oma ha. Barbour lectured on "Forestry.1 She said forestry con sists not alone in planting trees around one's home nor eren by the wayside or on pcblicjpoccdsjbuttin caricgJor and preserving the forests and in usicg them economically. A forest if properly managed can be made to yield an in come equal to any crop which can be planted. Mrs. Barbour spoke of the wanton destruction of forests which went on uninterruptedly for many years in this country especially in California, until scientists called attention to the waste and extravagance of it aod of late years steps have been taken to preserve the forests which still exist. Fifteen members of the Century club met Tuesday with Mrs. W. E. Kirker. Interesting papers were read by Mrs. A. L. Candy and Mrs. M. E. The club decided to continue the study of Egypt next year but to devote a part of tue time to the tudy of topics of general and current interests. The club will meet in two weeks with Mrs. F. E Campbell. The many Lincoln friends of Doctor E. n. Curtis, former pastor of the First Presbyterian church of this city, will be pleased to know that his new church building at Woodlawn park, Chicago, is completed and was dedicated last Sabbath. Mr. (J. M. Lambertson entertained the Round Table ou Monday evening. After dinner Doctor F. S. Stein con sidered the questioo: -Can the Piatt amendments concerning Cuba be recon ciled with the resolutions of congress of April 20th. 1333?" Ernst, Haas, Yoho; Misses Curtis and Baldwin. Miss Sadie Burnham sails today for this country. She will probably arrive in New York on next Saturday. Mr. Burnham goes to New York about the- li. Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Leveriog and family will spend Easter in Denver, their former home. Doctor Tyndale has gone to New York fur several months. Mrs. J. L. Kellogg has issued invita tions for a "Social Afternoon' on April IGifa. Mrs. J. L. Kellogg entertained the Athenea club on last Friday. Mrs. II. Mrs. J. W. Hubbell of New York city is the guest of her brother, the Uev. Lewis Gregory. Mr. and Mrs. David Charles Roths child who have been guests 'of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Herzog left for their home in Seattle last week Died, on Wednesday, of septic fever, at the home of his father and mother Professor and Mrs. Howard' Doane of Crete. Kenneth Doane, their young bod. The funeral services were private and were held in Crete on Thursday, tbe Reverend John Doane ot this city and the Reverend Morse of Crete., officiating The lad was brilliant and of great promise.
