Fourth of July celebration was the function of the week. Mothers had to watch their children, in this small city where mothers are the constant and im mediate guardians of their offspring. The heat has been intense and small porch parties, and door-yard picnics have been offered and enjoyed. The golf links absorb the energies and aspirations of a great many and those who do not play, enjoy chatter ing with an ever-present audience of relatives and friends of the play ere. A cool, delightful balcony party was given on last Saturday evening by Mr. and Mrs. Hays B. Tomson on the upper story of the porch at the Lindell hotel. The wide, airy floor space was decorated with rugs, divans, cushions and com fortable rattan Beats and illuminated wjth colored lights. Laughter and the slow, gentle conversation of a sum mer evening floated over the heads of transient guests at the hotel and re called them from politics and business to the amenities of tocial life. Mr and Mrs. Tomzon's guests were: Messrs. and Mesdames George Woods, John T. Dorgan, Ro6s Curtice, Lewis Marshall; Misses Smith of Omaha, Norval of Sew ard, Oakley, Putnam, Burnham, Mar shall, Cowdery, Carson, Kittle, Welch, Cowdtry, Garten. Gahan, Hoover, Nance, WatkinB; Messrs. Baldwin, Richards, Eames, Thatcher," Smith, Walsh, Joyce, Leonard' "of Omaha; "Butler, WatkinB, McCreery, Stoner, Holmes, Honeywell, Fitzgerald, Payne, Bartlett, Matson. Mr. Channing Craig and Master Fred latum are guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Hargreaves and of Master Harry Hargreavcs. The two lads ate school mates in the school which Master Harry has attended this year. On the Fourth. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Funke, Mr. and Mrs. Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Hargreaves, Mrs. Griffith, Mr. Craig, Harry Hargreaves, FredTatum, Mr. George Shedd and Mr. Leonard, enjoyed a picnic on the Funke grounds. On Thursdry evening, Mr. and Mrs. Hargreaves gave a dinner to Mr. and Mrs. Burnham, Miss Burn ham, Miss Hargreaves, Mrs. Griffith, Mrs. Scipio Dundy of Omaha, Mr. Burt Whedon and Mr. Eames. On Thursday night Mr. and Mrs. Hargreaves gave a trolley party. The invited guests were: Messrs. and Mesdames Wright, Buck staff, W. C. WilMn, lrvin; Tilton, Ladd, Funke, Marshall, F. W. Brown, Edminston, Searlee, Morrison, A. E. Hargreaves, Highter, Fitzgerald, Og den, Thompson, Dorgan, Woods and Howe. Messrs. Craig, Eames, Joyce, Richards and Thatcher. Mrs. Dundy and Mrs. Griffith. Misses Hoover, Hoi Iowbush and Oakley. The Good Times Euchre club gave a picnic to itself and a few others on the Fourth at Mr. Baldwin's place, Meadow Brook Farm. The party started at two o'clock from the L. C. Burr house, where Miss Hoover and Mr. and Mrs. Morrison are keeping house for tho summer. The members of the party rode in two huge bandwagons. At the Farm tbey lunched, played games, and in the evening set off the fireworks. The picnickers were Mesers and Mes dames W. G. Morrison, Elmer Merrill, Harry Everett, Howe, Freeman, Mullen, Dorgan, Edminston, Rector, Curtice, Lew Marshall, George Woods, Mrs. White of Omaha, Mrs. Rollins of Colum bia, Missouri, Mrs. Pennybacker of Omaha, Mrs. Myron, Wheeler; Misses Garten, Putnam, Oakley, Hollowbusb, Hoover, Burnham, Gahan, Carson. Nor val of Seward, Smith of Omaha; Messrs. Honeywell, Paine, Walsh, Yates, Joyce, Holmes, Butler, Baldwin, Van Riper, Richards, Kennard, Thatcher. On Thursday evening Mr. Harold Scudder gave a trolley party in the Oneta to Mr. and Mrs. Ogden, Marion Ogden and Bruce, Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Raymond, Miss Raymond, Mr. Arthur Raymond and Dorothy Raymond, Mr. and Mrs. John Dorgan, Mrs. Wilson i and Herbert Post, Miss Harwood and ' Dorance Harwood, Miss Harris and Miss Clara Harris. Mr. Harold Scud der is taking Mr. Norman Belcher's place while he is absent on his wedding tour. An enthusiastic party composed of Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Welch, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Schwind, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bryan, Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Al len, Mrs J. W. Winger, the Misses Bryau, Miss Welch, and Miss Ruth Bryan, went to Kansas City on Tuesday " to attend the convention. -En route Miss Helen Welch suffered a. painful accident. The car door slammed shut on her finger and broke the bone. A party of Lincoln people has planned to start today on a huhling and camp ing trip in Colorado and the Big Horn mountains. Among those who will go are: Major Trickey.Mr. Bert Minor.Mr. Frank Phillips, Mr. A. H. Buckstaffv and Mr. E.
