It ia longer ago than that since the last charty ball. Lin coln society people are lacking in that spirit which inspires the people of New York, of Chicago, even of so small a place as Denver, to unite and make a public occasion brilliant. It is essen tially provincial for ladies to hesitate about wearing their beet frocks "on ac count of the crush and because every body will be there." That is the sort of remark that some of the economical but pretentious members, of Lincoln society are making. Why should the spirit of mortal be proud r And is there a difference in the worms of the dust? It is a long time waiting for the members of society to learn their duties aB brilliant ornments of a mu nicipal occasion. Mr. and Mrs, Mark Woods entertain ed the Good Times euchre club on Fri day evening in honor of Mies Johnson of Evansville. Indiana. The guests present were: Mesdames Rector, Por gan, Woods, Crancer, Mullen, WoodB, Fitzgerald, Marshall, Howe, Curtije, Kelley, Ladd, and Lyons. Misses Put nam, Ode)l, Woods, Oakley, Marshall, Burr, and Cochrane. Messrs. Butler, Joyce, Smith, Honeywell, Eamee and Fitzgerald. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Howe entertained in honor of Mrs. Manchester and Mrs. Rollins on Tuesday evening. Six handed euchre was plajed, and Mrs, Mullen, Miss Carson and Mr. Hargreaves won tho prizes. The . guests were Messrs. and Mesdames Rector, Woods, Har greaves, Curtice, Mullen, Crancer, Mor rison; Mesdames Manchester and Rol lins ; Miss Carson ; Messrs. Joyce and Honeywell. Mr. and Mrs. Bart entertained the D.K. W. club Wednesday night The record of the games is kept until the end of the year, when prizes will be awarded the members who have won the most games. The members present were Messrs. and Mesdames Spangler, Wilkinson. Kimmerer, Dean, Carpenter, Hurd, Jones, Bolshaw, Sullivan ; Miss De Lashmutt ; Messrs. Morrill and How land. Mrs. Winfield Scott and Mrs. Heman Kelley entertained the members of the Wednesday Afternoon club and the Book Review club at the home of Mrs. Scott Friday afternoon. Six-handed euchre was played. Different colored sachet bags were used as score cards and colored pins were used to score the games. ThoBe present were Mes dames Usher, Cooper, O'Neill, Vander pool, Arnett, Blackburn, Keefei, Wente, Stevens, Gardner, Vanderpool, Rehlaen der, Stonebraker, Hoover, Cook, Wilson, Pnny, Lincb, Baker, Bartru.T and Miss Howland. Mrs. Webster gave a kensington on Thursday afternoon in honor qf Mrs. J. P. A. Black of Bloomington, Nebraska. Delicious refreshments were served after a pleasant afternoon had been pent. The invited guests were: Mes dames Thomas, Newman, Cowdry, De Pue, Casebeer, Clark, Field, EwiDg, Lambertson. Campbell, Yates, Holmes, Mareland. Garten, Marshall, Rewick, Kennard, Everts, Howell, Bartruff, Bowman, Billmeyer, Patrick, Webster, EvertP, Winnett, Hartley, Parker, Link, Morrison, Huntsinger, llodgraan, Bet sey, Babcock, Hoar, Scott, Piummer, Reese, Chambers. Polk, Griffith. Candy, Spalding, Reed, Hindmin, Sherman, Rhodes, Jamison, Loomis, Turner, Hall. Fleming, Christy, McCreery and Welch. Mrs. Guonzel gave a party on Monday evening in celebration of Mr. Guenzel's birthday. A very pleasant evening was spent in playing euchre. Mrs. Usher and Mr. Harris won the royal prizes and Mrs. Muneon and Doctor Finney won the boody prizes. The invited guest9 were: Messrs. and Mesdames Bignell, Foster. Richards, Rehlaender, Wilkin son, Hoi oke, Hoover, Harris, Munson, and Bignell. Mrs. Canfield and Mrs. Usher. The Tuesday night dancing club gave one of their delightful informal dances at Courier hall on Tuesday. Those present were: Misses Clark, Richards, McPheely, Hammond, Douglas, Pad dock, Woodward, Morgan, Macfarland. and Paddock. Messrs. Marley, Rick etts, Folsom, Sheldon, Shick, Anderson, Turpin, Paine, Attwood, Mattson and RobbinB. Mrs. Frank Woods entertained infor mally on Wednesday afternoon in honor of Miss Webster of Manchester, Eog land. A dainty tea was served at five o'clock. Those present were: Mes dames MarkWoods and George Woods. Misses Johnspn of Indiana, Garten, Putnam, Woods, Watkins, Webster, Burr, Welch and Cochrane. Mr. Eroest Ames ha3 returned from an unpleasant experience in the mining regions of the west where the mioers carry revolvers and shoot over a dif ference of opinion as they do in Ken tucky. Mr. Ames on account of bis youth and strength has quickly recover ed from the shot fired by an enraged miner. His many friends are delighted to see him back again unharmed. The Delta Upsilon fraternity initiated Messrs. B. W. Bededict, C. S Iluir, A. W. Gaines and S. R Wills and pledged Mr. F. W Hall of the High school, on Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Lahrgave a dinner on Thursday evening in honor of Mrs. Oyler of Tacoma, Washington. Covers were laid for Messrs. and Mesdam's Field, Sawyer, McCullogh, and Livring bouse. Mrs. Lansing and Mr. Hoyt. Mrs. Ross Curtice entertained the Cheese and Cracker club on Tuesday afternoon in honor of Mr3 Rollins. The afternoon wsB spent over dainty needle work and in guessing advertisements. Mre. Morrison won a beautiful picture for guessing the greatest number cor rectly. Those present were Mesdames Dorgan, Woods, Morrison, Rector, Rath bone, Smith, Crancer, Howe, Fitzgerald, Rollins ; Misses Burr, Hoover, Oakley, Carson and Naughton. Miss Florence Abbott Boggs, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Boggs, was matried to Mr. Emmet M. Fry of Chi cago on Tuesday at high noon. The wedding was simple, but very pretty, only the relatives and a few friends be ing present.
